Bestop sunrider top not available with tinted windows

Can anyone tell me why someone would not want a soft top to have tinted windows? I am beyond irritated that Bestop's new sunrider top for the YJ isn't available with tinted windows. There is a $300 replacement kit available though.

Because I don't like them. If it's too bright, I can wear sunglasses.

What if its too hot? Seats not faded enough? How about the little added security from people not being able to see in? (I know a Jeep with a soft top is anything but secure but every little bit helps). How about the ACs ability to actually cool the Jeep. I understand that not all Jeeps have AC but I would at least like to give my AC a fighting chance.

And I try not to spend too much of my time looking out the back windows so I don't see how the sunglasses comment is relevant

PS. The windows in your avatar look pretty tinted

You asked why someone would not want tinted windows so I told you because I don't like them. That's my reason.

Yes, my door sliders have a tinted glass, but not by choice. My Jeep came with a Rampage brief top, windbreaker and tonneau cover. I bought a Bestop Sunrider top with clear windows. When I have an extra $500 laying around, I will replace them with clear.

Its just a personal choice. I do agree that Bestop should offer tinted windows. Did you contact them directly? The vendor may not have them.

I did contact them directly. I was given the excuse that they assumed more people would want it with clear windows. Even when I pressed and reminded the rep that ALL of their other tops are offered with tinted windows, she stuck with her story. I feel it is a direct attempt by Bestop to fleece the early adopters of this top for an extra $300 for the tinted windows. They obviously make the windows tinted. I assume they are the same as the super top windows but regardless they are available for order so what other reason not to have them as an option when buying the top.

I agree with you..should be an option and not an ‘upgrade’. I’m happy with my Smittybilt $300 top with tinted windows, I do like that flip top option though-that’s pretty cool. I can get 2 tops for the price of that. My last Smittybilt lasted over 6-7 years, although it was beat up by then lol. It gets over 100 degrees where I live a few weeks out of the year, I’m sure it helps a little.

Agreed. Should be an option. Don't all the other tops have the option? There's a Bestop rep that is on here some, maybe she can explain it.

Hey there,

What the rep originally said is correct, there is no real demand for the top to come with tinted windows. The feedback we get is YJ Sunrider owners want clear windows. As to why it isn't an option i don't have an answer for that. I can bring it up to my Director in our next meeting to see about changing it.

It would be nice if you could report back and tell us what was said on the topic. I do realize I am only one customer but I will definitely be buying a soft top in the near future and was even willing to spend the extra money on the Bestop but I will not buy a top without tinted windows and I refuse to be fleeced for an extra $230.

You have to love the level of customer service from Bestop though. That is worth something in my book. Nicely handled.

Well, I have not heard if the top is offered with tinted windows yet but I did by it and [email protected] helped me out on the tinted windows.

This top is awesome. The only problem I had was the latches for windshield header were to big. When I pulled the header bar down tight to mount the latches the bottom hole completely missed the windshield frame and if I would have moved it up (it would whistle endlessly) the top hole would miss. I solved it by making a little plate out of some aluminum and mounting the latch to the plate and the plate to the windshield frame.

Did you have the same issue with the bracket? Is your windshield frame the same as mine? Not sure how or why they would be different but they are Jeeps

Pretty much. I mounted the bracket as low as I could. The driver's side is good. The passenger side looks like it should be a tad lower, but there is no play in the cross bar if I push down on it.

See post #15. Cassie helped him out.
Apparently he got what he wanted.

Kudos to Cassie & Bestop.

We still don't know if Bestop offers the top with a choice of windows. It seems like a simple thing to do.

Good Luck, L.M.

LuckyMac,
I should have been more clear in my question. I was curious if Bestop gave him an official reply or was this just a "give him what he wants so he will shut up" kinda thing.

Dunno! What's digger531 got to say about it?

In post #12, Cassie mentions a PM to digger. In post #13, digger seems happy.

Good Luck, L.M.

Cassie said she brought it up at the meeting but changes like this take a little time. She then said she was approved to sell me the top with the tinted windows. I (expecting a dead end) had already purchased the top through Morris 4x4 (I know I said I wouldn't but it was a really good deal). Cassie worked it out with me to get a set of tinted windows and I couldn't be happier.

I still hope to see tinted windows added as an option but I have no "official" confirmation.

Haha! We never want anyone on here to shut up It's our best way to get feedback from you guys, positive or negative!

I have the suggestion in, i never heard an official word but will ping our director of aftermarket to see if he would like to add that option.
