Besttop Trail Cover - Not too happy

I got a trail cover for my '92. It goes on easy and straps down on the sides and front well enough.

My problem with it is that it only hangs about 1/4" over all three sides of the rear tub. All it takes is a slight breeze and the sides fold into the tub. This gives the rain a nice little chute to fill the tub.

The simple fix would be to extend the material a few inches to give more skirting. If this was the case, the top would be perfect. But get some rain with a breeze and you're looking at a wet Jeep.

FYI in case anyone is looking for one for the top-off season.

I cant speak for the YJ version but the TJ/LJ version works pefect. It has tabs that tuck into the rails that the rear windows slide into. Do YJs have a rail like that?

Mine has the rails as well, according to the video there should be plastic tabs that tuck into the rail every so often.
If you're that unhappy with it , sell it to me, I have been wanting one.

Would you mind posting a pic from the back of it? Mine on the tj fits perfectly, I just want to see what the difference is.

I only have a hardtop and the trail cover. I do not have a rail to attach the clips to. It says to skip the step in the instructions if you do not have them. There are no clips on the back to secure it even if I had a rail.

I can post some pics soon.

On CJs and YJs, the belt rail for the tops is bolted on to the top of the tub. On TJs and Jks, it's built in.

So, even though I never thought of this problem, I can certainly see it now. The top is designed for use with those belt rails, and might not be nearly as convenient without them.

I don't have a solution or a good suggestion. This has never come up before, at least for me.

Run a 2" strip every 6" down the side and acrost the back, when you put the hard top back on it can stay there for the next time.

Get the sticky back type, and clean the area where you need them realy good, you may have to through a stich or two in the ones for the top, they don't stick so good.

Geoff:
Maybe you could incorperate some sewed into the fabric, maybe a full lenght strip would work even better, for them peskey YJ's with no rails, just a little more $ for the top but then it would fit like a glove, I think it would be worth it, MY TWO CENTS.

Check these out,

http://jeepcovers.com/storename/rain...pt-242125.aspx

They have nine tie down points. And they're usually cheaper than Bestop. I have one for my 93 Wrangler, I even tow with it on.
