big yellow bomber!

Hey all, I am new on the scene here. Living in Virginia Beach. I have a gorgeous (IMHO) YJ dressed up in yellow and black. On the outside and interior, I have no complaints. under the hood and on the back side, however, there are a couple problems. There is a pronounced ticking under the hood. Also, on the rear axle, there was a leak. I fixed that by doing a total axle replacement. I screwed the pooch by not matching the gear ratio. Now I am the proud owner of a 2wd wrangler. I am ashamed to admit that, but I need a bit of help. It is on Dana 35's on the back. I bought one off craigslist thinking that would fix everything. Not so much. The ratio is shit. How do I unf*ck this problem. Also, with the ticking, I am thinking lifter issue, but have not gotten under the valve cover as of yet. Could it be an exhaust leak like the smoke pit lawyer swears, or am I looking at bigger issues? One YJ owner said he made $500 in repairs for lifters, cam and exhaust manifold? Please help a little! Thank you all.

Well on the axles what I did was bought a matched set off Craigslist from someone that was goin was bigger. $300 and I was on my way. As for the ticking, I had the same thing and. Oils not figure it out until I did the restore and could see a hairline crack in the exhaust header. I put a new on one $130 and pretty easy job and no longer sounds like a diesel.

you have to re-gear one of your axles so that they both match. that should cost around 600-800.
ticking is most likely a exhaust leak
