Bikini Top Help

I have a bikini top from Bestop that came with the jeep when I bought it. I know I need the retaining channel for the windshield, but it seems that there isn't enough of a lip on the top that will catch in the channel the hold the top in place up front. Is there something I'm missing, something else I need, etc.?

it attaches in front of the widshield(outside) not on inside.

I know, but there's nothing there to attach it to. I know I'm missing the retaining channel that goes on the outside of the windshield, hit there's nothing on the top itself that would fit into the retaining channel. Unless I'm completely missing something.

look at the front end of the top. there should be a rubber/plastic pice that runs the length of the top. it tucks under the retaining channel.

That's the problem then, bc that part isn't there. I thought there should be something like that there, but there isn't. It's like it had been cut out. Can I just replace that piece somehow, or would I just have to replace the top?

You need something like this. They may make different styles depending on the type of bikini. It screws to the top of the windshield frame.

Yeah I knew I was going to need something like that for the windshield, but there's nothing on the top that would fit into it, which is why I asked if I could buy the plastic piece to fit on the top to fit into the retaining channel, or if I would have to just replace the top.

It depends on the brand. Some have the exposed rubber/plastic trim part that slides into the windshield channel. Others have the hard strip stitched into the vinyl completely. The internal strip goes into the windshield channel with the top upside down then flip it back and tighten the other straps.

I think the second style is what you have by the sounds of it.

The second one sounds about right, and makes sense now that you've explained it. Thanks for all the help.

i have a bestop bikini top and the front edge of top itself goes into the retaining channel. its real stiff on the front edge like it has a piece of plastic on the inside but you cant see it. i flip mine upside down on the hoo and put it in the channel then flip it over on top of the roolbar and strap it tight.

That's how mine is, like a hard piece of plastic sewn on the inside. So I guess I know now how to put it together. I knew most soft tops like that have a piece of plastic that sticks out a ways that fits into the retaining channel, but I had never seen one that flips into it like that, which is what was confusing me.

Anyways, thanks for all the help guys.

Another question... anyone know where I can get a retaining channej that goes around the back of the tub for the tonneau cover? I'm missing that too, but I haven't been able to find just that piece anywhere, unless I missed it somewhere.

you have to find the regular soft top hardware for that, its not a special channel.
