Brighter headlights?

I'm looking around on Quadratec right now (dangerous for my wallet, for sure) and I wanted to know if anyone has gotten the "Sylvania SiverStar" head lamps. Are they brighter? Do they work well? Are they worth buying? Thanks for any and all replies!!

They are brighter but they burn out quickly. Best thing you can do is upgrade your harness search putco h4 it's like 30.00. It'll allow more power to the lights a cibie Ecode housings and some decent h4 bulbs will do wonders. I personally did a hid projector retrofit with Morimoto h1 projectors. It works great but my setup ran 200ish.

Installed these yesterday. Got em from Octane Lighting in CA for $50.00

Just installed Amber LED ( ) headlights. Neat look on my Yellow Jeep. PLUS got 60w H4 bulbs and did not have to upgrade my harness.

A note about Octane Lighting: GREAT customer service and technical help. I am NO Wiring Guru and his phone help was invaluable!

Here are some photos:

Headlight and turn signal light removal. Did this to determine which wires to tap into! The LEDs are wired separately from the H4 which simply plugged into the headlight socket.

I like the look

When I bought my '87 it had one regular sealed beam and one plain Sylvania Halogen sealed beam. I drove it that way for about a year while I did other upgrades. I bought a pair of H-4 housings & bulbs (around $100.00) and replaced the regular sealed beam first. In a side by side comparison I couldn't see any difference between the H-4 and the halogen. If I had it to do over I would simply buy another halogen. As an aside, I really like the look of the H-4 setup.
If I wanted to spend the additional money I would try HID.
Good Luck, L.M.

I thought that I've heard of a mod for the headlights before, something to do with the wiring that gives the headlights more power. Not sure how to do it or even what it's called, unless that's what you were talking about here Tom.

The putco harness that he was talking about is it it's pretty easy you just get some inline fuses hook them to the harness then to the battery it is a plug and play harness pretty simple I have one I'm not using anymore if anyone wants it, it needs one new relay I ran it over after I took it off but it's a 5$ relay

I have the Silver Stars installed and I like them. They are brighter than the existing lamps that I assume were stock but I have no idea how old they were. I am glad I got them and would do it again.
I was interested in the LED's, but I didn't want to spend the money at the time.

What about LED's?

Are they made?

Are the legal?

Anyone installed some?

Thanks,

Y-Yes

They are made and legal but also very expensive and from what I've read and heard from guys that have them they are not so good when it's raining and said they would use some sort of Amber driving lights in those situations to see better

thanks for your input! That's basically where I am right now; wanting something brighter but not wanting to spend $400.

Hid retrofits only cost about 200-250 for parts and a few hours of time it's by far the best thing I've done to my YJ

My HIDs. Amber LED Halos, and 6,000 K Bulbs.

$50 for the pair (+$11 shipping from CA to MD) at Octane Lighting and they were great to work with. Knowledgeable and great advise. Did NOT have to do the wiring upgrade. These are truly plug and play!

That's not a proper hid setup that's shit that scatters light and blinds the shit out of people. Please goto retrofit source and buy some Morimoto mini h1 projectors to install in those housings

I had headlights like the ones he is posting on a 2003 vw and they did nothing more than light up everything but what was in front of me I drove myself crazy trying to aim them to be useful and ended up breaking the adjustment knobs sure they were cool looking with the halos but I was always having people flash me cause they thought my brights were on but I couldn't see the road

I hated them that's why I wanted to do it right this go around but I did get flashed so many times I lost count sure they looked sweet at dusk when just the halos were on but after that I would have been better off with two police style mag light flashlights taped to my hood at least then I could see what was in front of me
