Broken into

Ok I HAVE to leave my wrangler parked over the week on a parking lot while I'm gone . So 5 days max it's under several lights . I wish I had a diff vehicle to do that yet my junker broke down so for several months I can't afford a nother junker .

Well last week my Jeep got broken into all they took was some change and my radio face( they broke my lock to storage) .
All I have is soft top and 1/2 doors . I kinda figured sooner or later it would happen . So for now on ima leave it all unlocked .

What I need is a radio with USB that I can remove whole thing without undoin wires everytime or is there a way I can use an amp to hook my iPod up to and not use a radio ? I don't need fm .

Also what car alarm won't run down my battery and stay on for a week ?

Ty guys

So they didn't slash your soft top? Lucky you, if not. Low life thieves seem to the think the only way to get into a jeep is to knife up the soft top, bypassing the zippers...

Sorry to hear about that.

the only suggestion i can say is to take your face plate with you.
as far as alarms i believe they turn themselves off eventually. i know the one i had that was AM turned it self off after like 20 mins or something.

ive never heard of any amp that was able to hook up to an IPOD or anything like that. you could always put your deck under your seat or in your glove box locked up and put a cheap deck in the factory spot not really mounted or anything and let them just pull the deck out if they wanna steal it.

i usually leave my jeep unlocked. id rather have to replace a few CD's or a $300 head unit then a top or something else on the jeep...but thats just me. i dont keep anything valuable in the jeep at all. and i typically take my faceplate w/ me when leaving the jeep unoccupied...

Two weeks ago someone broke into my garage in the middle of the night. They went through my Jeep and got about $30 in cash and change, then tried to remove the radio but couldn't get it out so they just pryed around on it. They took one of my good flashlights, but left all my tools..nothing eles missing! CD player no longer works but thats no big deal. Just a dumb criminal....

You can always get an 1/8" to RCA cable from Radio Shack and direct wire to the amps input. But it won't sound the best. I install pro audio for a living (mixers, amps, eqs, speakers, etc) in churches, clubs, school, courthouses whatever pretty much. We always try to hook an iPod or CD player directly to an amp to get some tunes going until the sound booth is finished but it never sounds as good as going through the mixer. You just get that little bit of EQ from the mixer or receiver in your case that is needed to make it sound decent.
Is it possible sure, but may not sound to great.

As far as alarms. the only one that's worthwhile is one that you hear, and can respond to, and they cannot.

SO leaving it unattended for 5 days, alarms are worthless.

As far as radio, check ebay for a faceplate. I've had a faceplate stolen as well. I'd suggest you invest in a Tuffy console, or lockbox. lock faceplate in there. My theft inspired me to purchase the Tuffy. The next time they broke in they got nothing. Now on the weekends I keep my driveway alarm on as everything has been happening on the weekends for me.

Keep nothing of value in sight, and keep everything other than Tuffy unlocked (or they'll just break it to open it.). The Tuffy will require a cutting torch for them to get into, so its a great investment.

In my jeep I have a "driveway alarm" from Harbor freight. it is a motion detector that when a door is opened, will send a RF signal to the receiver inside my house. which will trigger me to come out with my 12 gauge shotgun. This is a good "at home" alarm, but not very good if you are far from the vehicle.

RadioShack sells small stereo amplifiers which i'm sure with a power converter and a switch/relay you can make work for your iPod input. You can't just run the output of the headset to a speaker, you will get low volume all the time just like you said. The signal has to be amplified before getting to your speakers.
