Buying a Jeep. Need Some Advice on a YJ

Lantern Motors | Inventory | 1993 Jeep Wrangler | Fort Myers FL

That is the Jeep I am interested in. The price seems a bit ridiculous to me. The guy says it has about 110k on it, which I'm not too worried about.

Am I wrong for thinking this thing should be priced a fair amount lower?

Thanks guys!

Divide by 2 and that is closer to what it's worth!

Wow nice looking YJ but 5k would be about as high as I would go.. You can pick a good one up for 3.5k to 4k. You may have to hit up Orlando area though not sure why everything down south FL is so damn expensive.

Okay. I thought the same thing. I called the guy and he started talking about how 104k wasn't bad for a '93, blah blah blah. I told him I will come by and take a look, but that price is ridiculous.

It looks really clean and I love the color. I just have to snap this guy back to reality before we can even start negotiating.

i wouldn't pay more than 5 k for it, and there shouldn't be a spot of rust on the frame at that.

I just sold my 94 YJ, 4 cyl. 5 speed...totally redone with complete frame sandblasting and POR, lift kit, skids, rock sliders, winch, and was able to get $4500 for it...and it took me a year to get that!
Definitely get the Kelly Blue Book quote and wave that at the salesman...looks like you have mostly stock rig, different bumper and rims but no add ons, no winch, etc. to jack the price up that high!

There's a 1989 with 14,000 original miles for sale at a local dealer for $7400, and he's had it for 6 months with no bites...I told him to come down on the price, but he keeps insisting the 14k makes it that valuable.

14,000 makes it more valuable, but not 2000 more valuable.

It looks clean and has full doors so that adds a little price but its too much. For 8,000 get a TJ with less miles.

That's where I originally found this one. They have it listed for $7500 on craigslist, which is still about $2500 more than I want to pay. I just don't see being able to talk him down that far. I guess they are just waiting on some sucker to over-pay.

I wanted to post a link to the ad for the '89 YJ with 14k miles, but people keep flagging it on Craigslist. It's real, I went to take a look at it...I wonder if people are flagging it because a 22 yr. year old Jeep with 14k seems like a scam???

I wonder how many problems there would be if you started driving it as a DD, considering it averaged 600 miles/year.

I picked mine up on craigslist for $2K...all stock. It needed a DS u-joint and that was it. I was was more interested in getting a solid frame and body. The only rust was a small hole on the driver's side floor board. I went stock because I wanted to do the mods myself the way I wanted to.

There are always plenty of Jeeps on craigslist...just hold out and get one at the right price.

Check out the cars and trucks by owner section, that's where all the good deals are. Obviously with the dealer you're going to have to pay taxes and fees, but most craigslist private party deals are straight cash.

I got my 94 YJ for 3250 which was the absolute lowest I could get any decent for after scouring the CL for over a month straight.

Good luck finding your right Jeep!

I picked up a '94 Wrangler on CL for $3800, and it runs well but has some of the power issues I have read about on this forum. I intend to re-gear to 4.88; the engine sounds and feels as though it's doing all it can, but the 4cyl 2.5L just can't turn the 33s with the stock gearing. After re-gearing I'll reevaluate putting more into the engine. I've never been much of a car mechanic, but I have teared apart and reassembled small engines. This jeep us my first project, with my son. We'll see if an old dog can learn a few new tricks - I'm almost 50.
