Buying a sketchy YJ

I'm looking to buy my first jeep wrangler, and I have my eye on a pretty sweet little Yj, what's the sketchy part you ask? Not much, it has an extremely clean interior, no rusty body panels, great looking tires and rims, good condition solid cap, but there is 1 thing

Cut and welded sections of the frame!! Do I run far far away? Do I take the deal? Will it ever be as strong as factory? What do I do!!

There are so many YJ's for sale without frame rust that I wouldn't consider it unless it is cheap enough to make a frame swap worthwhile. Even though the frame repair will likely be strong enough for quite some time every bolt you need to remove for any reason will likely be frozen in place. This can turn even a simple job into a nightmare. I see some gnarly scaling in that one picture.

The new sections don't look too bad, but they didn't do much to the part of the frame that they tied into. As others have said, there are plenty of others out there. I'd also pass based on what I see.

It all depends on how much the seller wants for it.
For a Grand, it'd be a parts vehicle.
For 2 Grand, I'd drive it until I started having problems, then it'd be a parts vehicle.
For 3 Grand, I'd pass. In Colorado there's enough relatively rust free YJs that a rusty one gets sold to a novice or as a parts vehicle.

Good Luck, L.M.

Show the seller my #5 post and offer him $2K. He might know what he has and just wants to unload it.

Good Luck, L.M.

Depends on the repair, I work with a pipeline welder this kid can fix anything. with that being said the repair can only be as good as the rest of the frame.
