Buying YJ in Dubai

Good afternoon gents:

I have just been inspecting a YJ for purchase in Dubai from a dealer. It is Japan imported with 77000kms on the clock. What should i be looking at before purchasing? I'll post a couple of pictures taken today.
I see the cage has been modified. Will it be expensive/difficult to get in into the original state.
Price is 6240$.
The car has been sprayed with a soft black product underneath which makes me a bit concerned as to if they are trying to hide rust. Or can it be just a normal procedure to avoid rust?

Not many miles if that's accurate, looks like a nice jeep at a good price. The undercoating is normal for being on an island where salt in the air is high. But it could also be masking a problem like rust. If you can, crawl under the jeep with a screw driver or small hammer and tap on the frame by the rear bumper and shackle hangers. See if it sounds solid or brittle, of course if your screw driver goes into the frame, run and don't look back.
As far as the cage, it looks like they removed the family bars in back. A good welder should be able to fix you up.

what year is the jeep? the rollbar looks like the sport bar used on the early wranglers.
what motor does it have? being from Japan it might have different options than we have.

That rollbar looks stock. The 91 still had the older style "sport" bar. Not the "family" style cage.

Whats the japan connection? Wouldn't it be right hand drive from japan. Check to see if it had a hackjob conversion to left hand drive.

The undercoating could be there to protect the jeep from rust, to deaden road noise or stereo system vibration, or to cover rust. You will know if you get underneath and pick at stuff with a screwdriver.

If its all nice and solid, get it. The cactus green liberty renegade alloy wheels are a rare sight.
