Can a Hunk of Metal Go Bad?

Had my YJ for 1.5 years and just installed a car stereo! (A modest Sony for 69 bucks...)

THe guy at Best Buy said he hooked everything up but NO radio.

He said the antenna "is bad."

How can a hunk of metal go bad?

I can build a house, rebuild a V8, can do any task but I know NOTHING about electricity...

Yes, I am that stupid, and yes, I am serious. The stork just doesn't drop 69 bucks over your house these days...

Thanks, Brent

Well it's not that it goes bad it could be that the wire that goes from the antenna to the radio could of broken other than the wire being broken they don't go bad, but on some the wire is permanently attached to the antenna so if it breaks you have to replace the antenna

I suppose it's possible the antenna is rusted through somewhere, or grounded where it shouldn't be. It's more likely that the BB monkey didn't know where to stick the stock antenna cable into the new receiver...

Tony 76 and CL--

Guess I'll finish the job I paid someone else to do in the morning and trace the wire from the antenna into the tub and see what happens. It'll be Saturday which means I can drink beer early....

Thanks for the replies, bw

Antenna is located on passenger side just north of the door. I'm going to tear into it in 5 minutes...the U in Flagstaff hired me back for the Fall, btw.
