CB I would think. Marine radio will travel further but last I knew you needed a license for marine transmitting.

a marine radio works on different frequencies then a CB. so while you can put one in your jeep, it will be useless unless you spend all day at a marina.

you no longer need a license for a marine radio.

that depends entirely on where you are, and how good your set up is. some one out in a large open area is going to have an easier time talking to people farther away then some one in dense woods. while a handheld CB is not going to work as well at distance then a good dedicated set up in your rig. IIRC, by law it can not have a range of more than 4 miles. but that would be very rare to get out that far.

then just about any off the shelf CB will work for you. just try and avoid the hand held units. ive yet to find any one with anything good to say about them once you get back in the woods.

Cb is limited to 4 watts transmitting power. 1000 watts can be done but is illegal because you'll blackout tv and other electronics every time you transmit. Once you get one you can tell. You'll hear a super loud voice that can talk over anyone. Lol. They are pushing some illegal wattage.

1000 lets you talk for about 60 miles and still be clear lol i have seen 1000 watt set ups and most of them are hardcore base station set ups most i have ever seen in mobile is about 600 and you can talk about 30 miles away and be be clear as can be on the other end ..its nice!! i would suggest if you are going to be hard core off roading get a leaner. one about 200 watts cause if your in the middle of no where farther then a mile or 2 out then you ant going to be talkn to anyone but mother nature with a stock setup lol as long as you sitn in your drive way using it the FCC and going to say much the monitor the public areas cause more then 4 watts out of a cb you can talk over tvs, radios and other stuff. if ya got any ?s about cbs i have ownd a few in my day just ask and i can tell ya about any thing ya need to know

you can always go and get your ham license. it only cost about 20 bucks and you can find some good handheld's or you can put a rig in your jeep.

Would a cb radio fit where the stereo goes in the dash? I put my stereo in center console so there is a gap in the dash now

Simple answer, Yes.
Some are manufactured just for this application, others will fit with proper mounting brackets. Google: "cb to din mount"
There are as many shapes/sizes of CB's as there are manufactures, so you usually need to find one specific to your model.

super loud voice is probably a pre amplified battery assisted microphone. nothin illegal about that and it will improve your radios performance.. talk farther.

on the marine radio you can change crystals to change the frequency you talk on....but it's not used that much landside.....however, if you near the ocean you can talk to all the fishing boats....
