Well I drive a semi and a Jeep . Big names on cb are Galaxy Midway Cobra well the list goes on .
How much you wanna spend ? Where do you live lots of CB shops around .

Me in my Jeep I would run a small Cobra 25 peaked and tuned .About 40-60 for cb and 30ish for the tune. Not super tuned or modulated . I have one to put in mine I'm just not at that point yet .

You can get many full size CB that are nice yet a 25 is cheap and will be good for trails or on interstates after it's been tuned .

For a Jeep id stick with a basic.. CB.. As I dont think your looking for 25 mile range like a trucker might...

They are all limited to the range due to government restrictions... Unless mess with..
Cobra is all Ive ever run... I have a basic DX III it older but does what I need it to do on the trails. New they go for about 40$ I found mine on ebay for 18 Used
The key is buying a good antenna.. Firestick is the best for your needs.. they will run in the 20 range...

Good luck man

I live in western new York, i'm sure theres shops around that i don't know about so ill probably just get one off the internet. I want a decent one but not too expensive so i was looking in the $110-$130 range, does that sound like a reasonable price for a new good CB.

Ya dude lots of CB in that price range . You won't need one with sideband . So stick with basic .

I own least 30 cb various makes and models . And the Cobra 25 is basic as it gets and a really good cb for mid frame size . It don't get 25 miles I think the other poster is confused . I will get 3-4 miles with a peak and tune and the swr set with your antenna .
It's the cb I'll use in my Yj . The antenna is important yet not the most important . Your mic will be more important .
I would suggest a used CB then get it checked out at a shop . You can get your swr set at a shop or do it yourself with a swr meter from radioshake .
Firestick makes decent low end antennas . You'll need ones that's tunable or trimmable to set the swr .
Me on my Jeep I'll use a 25$ small coil antenna from Radioshake also .
When CBs sit for awhile in storage or on shelves waiting to get sold the detune and the freq can go out . any cb needs to be tuned new or old . And look up swr on the Internet you can do that yourself easy .

Also if your set on new don't do the Cobra 25 I just looked up what they sell for now and new price isn't worth it . 60 is all I'd pay .

http://www.gijoesradioelectronics.com/

Is really good shop to order online . Really good tech . Lots of other good cb shops around yet they don't do Internet .
I've used gi joes alot .
EBay is another choice . Yet you never know the source I've gotten 2 gear deals on used cb and got 2 junk .

Yea for a basic setup youw ill be fine. You don't have to sweat getting huge distances. I can't wait to set up one in the YJ.. Which only thing im concerned about is where ya'll put it! I figure under the dash but this one is gonna be my toy... I may end up gettin a marine one cause I don't wanna worry about water.

Any pics of anyones install spot?

I just bought a tuffy security center console with a locking lid and separate locking compartment for a radio or cb, their pricey but its really nice, i'm putting the console in tomorrow.

Ham

Just out of curiosity, why don't you get your operators lic. and run HAM. SO many more options and loads more fun than a barrel of monkeys, plus you can set up APRS and set data packets, very small but still.

If your YJ has the ashtray cig lighter under the dash you can remove the ash tray and install the smaller cobra CB that was spoke of earlier. Do some slight modifying (with dremel, hand tools etc...) and it will fit like a glove and it will look like it came stock. I put my trunked scanner in that bracket (quite a bit more modifying - but it looks clean and not half a**, IMHO). https://www.wranglerforum.com/f40/sca...all-87787.html

I have a Midland that I got off of CL for 10 bucks. Spent 30 bucks on a 48" whip with mounting brackets and cable. It's not tuned, but I get about a 5 mile range give or take.
