Center console

Looking for a good center console for my 94 yj. I've seen the ammo box and the explorer conversion, but I'm looking for something that's just an easy bolt up that's not super long. All the aftermarket ones I've seen seem really big. Anyone know of a good one that installs easy and looks good. I would love to see some pics of some installed. Thanks guys.

I got the Smitty one, the one you can lock and put your stereo in.

$100, easy install, and a spot i can actually lock stuff.
Its not to big, and gives me a place to rest my arm when im not shifting.

Did u have to space the back of it down to the floor? The tranny hump looks like it would make the console not flat. Or does it mount before the hump drops

I have a VDP one that was 78 bucks at 4 wheel parts. It is the big one but it bolted in easy and has lots of storage. No problems with the shifter or the back seat laying down with it. I would recommend it low cost and easy install. I did put on the seat belt extensions.

Cool thanks! It's hard to see what they will look like. If the manufacturers were smart they would show an installed picture to sell them.

The kit comes with everythign you need, there are legs in the back, with long mounting bolts that take up the space, and mount it SOLID!

Ill post a pic tomorrow, its late, and raining, and im lazy.

Ok, found one I had allready, Ill post one of the back and how it mounts tomorrow.

I have that Bestop model. While it fits well & doesn't interfere w/ anything, the mounts are way flimsy & the case has a small split on a horizontal seam after only 4 years. I don't carry much in there, but it would take 2 seconds to break into.

NOT very secure or solid.

this one is long and had to be spaced up and forward or the back seat lost half its foot room.

t makes a nice padded arm rest though and holds tons of junk. i have a bottle of clorox wipes for when cats pee in the jeep at night, my hazmat chemical book, a carb rebuild kit, and a whole bunch of flyers for go topless day. and then when i get in, i put my hat in there when i am on the highway and it doesn;t get squashed.

a benefit of this console though is that the cups from mcdonalds and circle k fit into it very well so they don;t try and tip over when driving. and i mean the biggest cups they have.

here is how i fixed the hump in the jeep versus the flat bottom of the console

i got a piece of cardboard and made a template of the curve of hump and then transfered the front curve to a 2x4 and cut it out with the old sawzall and then i made a template of theback curve and transfered it to a 2x6 with prior mentioned sawzall and mounted a 2x4 to the top of it and put it in. works great and my kids like the cup holders alot better then the ones in the speaker pods

if i put the console in where it wanted to sit, the back of it sat on the step and butted up against the rear seat. sucked for back seat people and my back seat is raised and moved back so you know it would really suck in a stock back seat

i wouldnt mind a better center console. for a couple reasons: first, the lock on the stock one is shot so there is no use in that anymore. also, i wish it was a little higher up so i could use it as an armrest. I'll probably just end up making an ammo can console though. they're cheaper and i like the look anyway

Those Ivault ones are sick. But they cost way too much. I think the smittybuilt one is the best for the money. That's the one I'm looking at the most now.

That ivault is a good knockoff of the Tuffy. I run the Tuffy and am quite pleased. head unit in a locked compartment and plenty of room in the main compartment for everything else. Plus the seat belt loops keep the front seatbelt female ends pointed up for access.

IMO the ivault looks cheap, right where the iphone is sitting on looks like it doesnt belong. I like simple as if it was stock.

Anyone have any photos of the bestop?

I was thinking this for the CB if mine doesn't fit in the console: Overhead double compartment security console

A CB in the floor center console would probably need an external speaker, no?
