Courtesy lights on a 1990?

is a 1990 supposed to have courtesy lights under the dash? mine doesn't, but not sure if that s normal? or if the PO removed them for some reason?

Not all years or models had under dash lights. SE's, X, Sports more than likely not, Rubi's Sahara's more likely do.

However, almost all Jeeps use the same harness so just look up to the right behind the glove box and see if you find a small connector with 2 wires doing nothing. Usually real close to the pillar. Put a test light on those two points and open and close the door.

Mine came with only the drivers door switch and drivers side courtesy lamp. I bought a passenger side switch & lamp off EBAY for $15.00.
To my knowledge, as Patofnaud states, all YJs have the same basic harness. Adding stock items like courtesy lights, fog lights and hard top wiper/washer-defroster should be as simple as mounting the accessories and plugging the harness into the already existing under dash plug.

It seems crazy to me now, to even have bought the passenger side light. I take my doors off often and have to unplug the courtesy light switches so that the lights won't come on. I haven't plugged the light switches back together in a couple years.

Good Luck, L.M.

The Sahara's we're loaded with all the bells and whistles they should be there, screwed to the bottom of the metal dash about 3 or four inches in from each side.

Same here I added one on passagers side and replace stock mirror with one with map lights on it.

I used a couple of LED tag lights on either side in the footwells. I can't run jamb switches because I have soft doors so I use the switch on the dash to control them

i'm glad they have that. what rock auto shows for a door jam switch is nothing like that. what you have pictured there is on my door jam, but the plunger is completely gone. but at least i know what i need now.

thanks

They carry drivers and passengers side. Mine only had drivers side. I added the passengers side hole was already there just had to screw it in and put one wire too it.
