daddy's ride

ok, so workin on my jeep got me into my fathers jeep. i have some questions about whats up with it.

first off it was some one else's project. It was a totaled 1980 cj5, has a new
fiberglass body and i have no clue what engine and tranny tcase combo.
i know its a straight six and thats it. every time you make a sharp turn it churps
the rear tires, does it have a locker? and how can i tell? also can i take the front and rear end off an xj and the ax15 and np231 and stick it behind the engine...and is there some after market throttle body injection i can put on the engine, as it has a shitty carb. any help would be great.

nice cj. we gotta know what engine is in it. but you should be able to get an adapted bellhousing to do what you want. sounds like you got a locker. good luck

with a locker it should let the tires turn seperate sounds more like you have a spool or some one welded up the spiders, open it up and have a look

the idea of a locker is to not let the tires turn seperately. a limited slip will alow one to move untill a certain point. but is a good chance someone welded the spiders.

That is a sweet looking CJ. This is one site I found, with a phone number, that seems to handle everything you might need. Hope this helps. http://www.kaiserwillys.com/

I agree with your Jeep either having a spool in the rear, or welded spider gears.

Good luck.

also another thing that leads me to believe that it has a locker is when power is shifted(on off throttle, changing gears, etc) the jeep shoots across the road especially in turns.

Should have the 258 if its the 6cyl
Rear axle should be a model 20, far better than the dana 35 out of an xj, as long as you upgrade the shafts, and weld the tubes.
T-case should be a model 20, 2.62 to 1 ratio if I recall.. no sye needed.
tranny could be anything.. if 3 spd then T-150 but hard to know.
Carter carb most likey, if running rough, look up how to clean pickup tubes, this will help a ton.

ok well, it is a 4 speed manual. not sure if any of you know what model that would be? the carb was replaced when bought with a crappy advanced auto one...bummer, but i would really like to see tbi on it..also a good.cheap set of wider front and rear end, dana 44's be nice.but it is on a budget rebuild, its my dads and i would like to get him into off roading but it won't happen much if sh%# breaks alot cause its crap.
