Decent value buy or no?

Ok guys, I know us Newbs ask for your expertise on this type of thing over and over and over, so here goes one more time.

Here is a 89 YJ, 116k miles some upgrades @ 4k is this a great buy?

https://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/12476648

I'm looking for a toy, something that can drive on highways but only just enough to get to where I can off-road dig in dirt and such...probably won't rock crawl too extensively but some small stuff....

Any info and opinions would be greatly appreciated, what should I look out for, what can I expect, in terms of replacing and falling apart on me…Thanks in advance.

Rust would be biggest worry but shouldn't be an issue in Utah. Don't know is dry rot of ruber parts an issue out West? As far as price goes it is dependant on the local market. here in NY as long as everything checks out that would be a great deal at $4k in my mind. Again you need to go over and see if it needs anything but if no major issues I would say that's not a bad price.

WHY would he put in a 3 speed? (Im assuming he meant a Tremec 160).
I assume you can drop a NV3550 in its place, but that would kill the original purchase price.

This one is more suited to be a Wheeler with the 3 speed....

IMO, of course.

too much for a 4cly.. maybe 5-6k but as stated price will vary...

On the 89 find out what axles its runing, 35's are a big for the rear axle, and see if the gears have been changed as well.

Otherwise it seems like a decent price.
