Does this look right?

Howdy folks, still trying to work through some issues with my soft top. I will be installing the new top over what I assume to be an OEM style frame this weekend - if everything goes as planned.
Anyway, something didn't look right up near the front of the frame. The drip rails weren't really connected to anything. I think that all I will need to order are the plastic pieces for each side of the windshield. The top part with the knobs that the drip rails connect to. It looks like I will also have to order two of the slidey-locky things too. So, here is a picture, does this drip rail look right?

Also, what goes in the hole with the clip nut in it?

Thanks

(cross posted in YJ Tech forum, but no response yet and I need to order parts to get done this weekend)

That is what your windshield plastic door surround should look like, that is without the plastic sliding lock piece but I have not seen a need for it. eBay has those front windshield door surrounds, I have seen them

Aka somebody hacked those things up!!

Here is a link to what the YJ Bestop install looks like. This is what is on my 95 YJ.

The 95 YJ does not have door surrounds.

Thanks!

I was able to peek into a coworkers YJ yesterday too, and confirm that my drip rails are good, but I need the side rails. I ordered a set last night from Amazon. They should be here in time for me to install the new Smittybilt soft top (in spice) by this weekend.

Now, for a couple more questions!

How many of y'all run without the locking clips? Them rascals are nearly $7 each on Amazon!

Front bow padding - mine has none. Last weekend while in town I stopped at Lowes and picked up up some of that foam pipe insulation to use on it. Is it really necessary? I notice that YJ's with the foam seem to have that pronounced "humpback look" when they have the foam cover on. I guess it is to prevent wear in that area? Or to stretch the top to help lessen the amount of flapping when going down the road?

I don't use the locking clips, doesn't seem to serve much of a purpose to me. The foam padding is more for wear against the metal and the flapping, when your going down the highway that top can get buffeting pretty hard

Get the locking clips. When the top is on, those clips keep the channels in tight and keep the pegs from getting broken off.

They really pay off when lowering and raising the soft top frame by yourself. They keep the channels from dropping when you are on the other side.

must be just me but none of that has ever been an issue, the snaps and the front windshield hold everything on my top perfectly tight and I take my frame off by myself every time with zero issues. But again that's my personal experiences, I don't see the need in wasting 14 bux on that, hell that buys me gas to take a trip to the beach with the wife n kids or a 12 pack of beer if yu really feel like pissin your money away.
