not so much horsepower gain, but smoother running, more reliable and easier starting

it also depends how strict they are with emissions inspections where you live

Removing emmisions equipment is a Federal crime.

Not that it has stopped people before, but be aware.

I had to replace all of the pulse air crap in mine, in PA, even if your county doesn't do emissions inspection if the vehicle had emissions stuff in it, it has to be there for state inspections. I got lucky and found a guy on Craigslist doing a V8 conversion

I love when people post this.

Just remember its only illegal to tamper with your emissions equipement. There is no provision in the law if your stuff is missing or changed. They would have the burden of proving you "Tampered with it". Also if I remember right this law only applies to vehicles over 8600gvw.

its probably important for those who jump on the enviroment bandwagan that while 10% of pollution is cuased by automobiles world wide. Roughly 2% of that is from Joe Shmoe driver, the rest is from commercial vehicles.

The act of tampering with, or removing Federally mandated emissions equipment is illegal. Talking about such activities is frowned upon on this forum, and I suspect this thread will be LOCKED in short manner.

That must be why myself, as well as my friend got $670 dollar fines on our
"presmog" datsun 510s for putting mid 90s efi motors in without cats, evap etc.

Guess the "Modified smog device" ticket as well as the trip to the Bureau Of Automotive Repairs and trip to court was just a big misunderstanding?

Missing/changed/modified/tampered/ it is all the same. If your vehicle came with xxxx, and now has xxxx or is missing xxxx you are outside the statues of the law

here is the CA law for your viewing pleasure.

I just purchased a 94 YJ with no cat. It wouldn't pass our emissions without it. They do a visual equipment check as well as the smog carbon check. (Arizona)

The only reason the previous owner got away with it was it was out of county, and didn't require emission to register.
