exhaust questions

Just picked up a 93 YJ this past weekend and it needs the muffler replaced asap. Someone put a turbo muffler on it and it turns down under the back seat and dam its loud. I have owned plenty of loud cars and trucks but this just sounds terrible. Since i have to replace the muffler i wants to see what brand and models yall recommend. I have used flowmasters in the past on a couple mustang GT and F150s but not sure how that would sound on a V6. I have thought abt just putting a stock muffler back on but since im going to be buying one i figured i would check into a aftermarket one first. Does any one have sound clips of there exhaust?

I used to have stock then I put a new one on and it's too loud for my liking.. I would just go stock. for future reference you would have an I6 or an I4 not a v6.

Hello everyone! I could use your input please.

I am new to this forum and this is my first Jeep...and this was my first mod...

I have a 2014 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon.

I recently put on the following:

aFe cold air intake

Silver Bullet Throttle Body Spacer
aFe Power 46-35003 - aFe Power Silver Bullet Throttle Body Spacer for 12-15 JeepĀ® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK with 3.6L - Quadratec

aFe power mach force XP loop delete DP 2.5in SS-409
mach force XP Y-Pipe 2.5" SS
aFe power mach force XP 2.5in Cat-Back SS-409 Exhaust System

I love the sound but I have now lost approximately 3mpg after putting all of this on. Is this normal? I don't drive any differently but didn't expect this big of a difference in my mileage and hadn't read anything prior to purchasing this system that would lead me to believe it would be like this.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

I am going to ignore the unrelated JK MPG post. On the YJ exhaust, personally I would go with Rusty's Flowmaster exhaust. It won't be super quiet but I ran their Flowmaster exhaust on my XJ Cherokee and was very happy with it. Best bang for the buck out there, throaty sound but not super loud. I recently installed the JBA stainless cat back because I got a great deal but it's rather loud.

Rusty's YJ exhaust.

Lets give the JK guy a break...he said he is new here.

Bianchi, Try posting that in the in a new thread in the JK section (don't hijack someone's thread, start your own). Us guys here in the YJ section are used to working on low tech vehicles and have no idea what you are talking about.

Back on topic... I loved the sound of my Flowmaster 40 series, but that was just my opinion. It was a bit on the loud side. I had many people ask if I had a V8, which I didn't at the time.

A lot of how loud your exhaust is the way it is routed. If it dumps under the body with out a full tailpipe it will be much louder than if it has a complete exhaust exiting beyond the rear of the vehicle.

I told my muffler guy I wanted to know it was running, but I didn't want headaches every time I drove it. He installed a Dynomax Super Turbo installed in my 4.0. The body length is about 18-20" and has a full tailpipe. I'm happy with it.

I just ordered a Pace Setter Performance TFX Performance Kat-Back System for my Jeep. I did some research and decided on this set up.

I went to the muffler companies (flowmaster, mega-flow, dyna-max...etc) and some of them have a recording of what they sound like...

Then I went to youtube and looked searched "wrangler YJ exhaust" and found a bunch of vids there with people trying different stuff...

I didn't want a loud sound... but I didn't want it too quiet either...

something in the middle....

I had kind of the same issue, I purchased a Thrush welded muffler for 35$ to replace my rattling one.. wow was it loud.. too loud.

I ended up replacing it with Amazon.com: Dynomax 17309 Exhaust System: Automotive based on a post I saw here.. its much more tolerable and still sounds good, and in the end I will get a 50$ rebate

Only thing about the Dynomax is it wasn't quite an exact fit, I ended up bringing it to a muffler shop to get it bent slightly so it wouldn't hit the floor.. or maybe I just got a poorly bent one who knows

Ya i have been watching youtube listening to all kinds of exhaust. Hopefully next week at Jeep Beach i can hear some in person and figure out which i want. I think the biggest problems is the muffler is right under the passenger side back floor pan and dumps down right there which increases the sound. The guy i bought it from says its a Dynomax Super Turbo but i need to get under and see what it actually is. I might be able to just run pipes out the back and fix the loudness enough.

Here is 94 videos of 4.0 Jeep Exhaust for anyone else looking!
