factory sound bar speaker size

I've asked Google and searched here as well and I can'tfind an answer that satisfies me.
What is the biggest size speaker iI can put in a factory sound bar. I've 5.25 and 6.5 with about equal popularity. It seems everything I find sends me to a tj forum. The tj sound bar is a totally different animal right. I reckon its fairly thin sheet metal and I have no quals of cutting into it as it looks like has 4 inchers In it now and they are on there last legs. Can somebody give me a concrete answer on the biggest size I can put in it.

Thanks

Tim

My 95 had 4" Jensons from the factory, replaced with Polks... Install here https://www.wranglerforum.com/f330/95...1045953-3.html
They sound really good for the size, but let's be honest with the top off at 60 on the expressway. It's not gona happen

Still have the Jensons in mine, and they still sound pretty good.

Yep,4" stock. There is a lot of metal to trim if you want larger, I put 6" during my rebuild. I now have two 4x6 in the dash, two 6" in the sound bar and two 6x9" in roll bar boxes. Sounds pretty good for a soft top jeep, the 6x9 gave me the bass I was missing.

Thanks for the reassurance. Reckon I could enough metal to put 6 1/2s in?? Im going to go look at 6 inchers and see what I can come up with. I also think im going to try to get marine certified if at all possible.

Thanks again

They do make 5.25" speakers too, might be easier to fit in.

Yeah I am thinking about just doing 5.25's. I sorta thought while iI was in there anyway might as well cut a little more metal and stick 6 1/2's in there. 5.25 are significantly cheaper though. I really just wanted reassurance that 6 1/2's would fit.

II'm from the school of thought of overkill is underrated lol.

Got a funky idea, has anyone put 6x9's in their soundbar??

Thought it might be that hard to do as Im going to have to make the hole bigger anyway, and I know some of you have put 6 inchers in the soundbar so to me it seems feasible. It would be a good way of getting some bass response and therefore might allow me to skip the whole sub portion of the build (who am I kidding id still add a sub).

what you think

You could put 4x6's in the sound bar, but 6x9's wouldn't work to fit flush. The other limiting factor is the depth of the sound bar. The 6x9 speaker needs a deeper hole to fit and give good acoustics. Save the 6x9 for lower rollbar boxes at the floor or sides of backseat where you can have a larger box with more bass output.
