First Jeep

Hello everyone! My name is Thomas, just joined this forum. I am looking to buy my first jeep, however am having some trouble. I have found a 95' in great condition. I am confused on a few things. First, it has "front and rear aussie lockers". I have no clue what these are other than having to do with the differential. It also has 4.10 gears. Second it has a "rebuilt Ford 8.8 axle". I need the jeep as a daily driver and do not know how these modifications would affect that purpose. It has 88,691 miles on it. Thank you in advance for the help.

How much? Sounds pretty stout? I'm looking to do the 8.8 swap as they are a popular choice for a beefier rear end for wheeling. Lockers I have no experience with. 410's seem to have come stock on the 2.5 4 cyl. I'm looking to regear to 410 but have the 4.0 6 cyl. How is the jeep? Rust issues? The inline 6 engines are known to go a lot of miles! I got mine with 92k and have 116k with little problems other than starter, fan clutch and other minor common failures. I love my YJ. How much are they asking? Blue book on mine was like $3500 in current condition and that's what I paid...and it was bone stock.

Going by what you state and no other info aka the ad posting would help. It sounds like a great buy if the price is right and I see no reason that it wouldn't make a great DD. is it lifted, rusted, wires molested?

Here is the link to the ad.

Cars for Sale: 1995 Jeep Wrangler Rio Grande in Alpharetta, GA 30004: Sport Utility Details - 404778756 - Autotrader

From what I can tell from the pictures there is no rust. Havn't seen under it yet. The vehicle is located about 3 hours from me so I havn't been able to see it yet. Looks to be in great condittion.

Check blue book, upgrades that were added could easily add up to asking price if you took it to a mechanic? I have the 6 cyl and heard that the 4 banger is gutless but others have no problems. To do any wheeling you will eventually want a suspension lift and probably 33's at some point? I like where they have the jack. I think you should keep looking and find a 4.0 6 cyl...you might find one with a lift and tires already? Other than it being a 4 cyl, its worth looking at and driving...you might be OK with it?

95 is the best year for YJ. The 8.8 is a great addition. Having the Aussies front and rear will take some getting used to in the snow and ice, it's great off road, not so great in winter driving. The 4:10 gears are a good up to about 33" tires. Check for rust carefully, especially around the rear frame members and wheel wells. The price is reasonable for a 95 in good shape.

I agree with Reno, definitely look for rust, take a small hammer and tap on the frame, if it sounds hollow inspect much further. RUST RUST RUST

as every one said, check for rust, if it's relatively rust free, looks like a good choice. As for rust, check frame well, especially rear sides where shackles clip in, than gas tank cross-member, front frame near the steering box (very important, often rots here).

I'm not really sure I bought it the way it is about 2 months ago the owner before me removed all the rust and used a lot of bondo to cover it up, so quick bed liner paint job to make it look better was his cheap way to fix it I guess, you can hear where the bondo is if you tap on the tub all over the drum beat from tapping sounds muffled where the bondo is. I just love how after I've put scratches on it I just clean the spot and use bed liner in a can to cover it up. I'm actually planning on getting those same fenders as you after I finish paying my college tuition fees for this year.
