For the love of god someone help me narrow this down

I recently bought an 88 yj 4.2 5 speed. The previous owner said it had an issue where it would run but after thirty mins or so would bog down and die ... after letting it cool off it would fire back up...

I’ve replaced the coil, carb, and icm and while it runs great at first it still does after running for awhile under load... sometimes it fires back up after a few mins .only to die a few feet later.. other times I have to wait legit over night but the following day the same thing ... I’m writing this from the side of the road as I just replaced the icm and coil and thought I was good but apparently the Jeep doesn’t agree... what could the causes be?

I actually had this happen on a vehicle years ago. A '73 Chev PU. I had installed headers and apparently left the electrical lead wire to the starter too close to the header collector. After driving a while, it would just shut down. Let it cool and, and she was fine.
Now I'm not suggesting you check your headers, unless of course you have some, but my point was that an electrical overheating issue was causing my motor to completely shut down. You "may" have a similar situation, and if so, it's going to take some real tracking to find it.
Thinking about it, I'm wondering if a relay could overheat and cause the same issue? Might we worth looking into.
Hey, I had to dig deep for than one!
Oh, and carry a sleeping bag with you.

I think 283 & oldhp made great suggestions.
If its bogging down prior to dying it makes me think fuel related as well. (Vapor locking, boiling fuel in line, etc as oldhp suggests.)
If its just flat cutting-off & dying with no warning. I'd suspect electrical.(as 283 suggests. )
But to be safe,
It doesn't hurt to check both. You may have a couple issues vs one.
On a side note Cole,
Keep your head up & don't get discouraged.

I wouldn't call that a long shot.... I've seen that be the case LOTS of times

I tried the gas cap trick with no luck , I did however notice a o2 sensor clipped just dangling. I’m sure that’s not causing it to just die but I’ll replace it. When it dies there’s no pedal response and it sounds like it’s choking or “unplugged” and sometimes it magically comes back after a second only to die a few seconds later
. If it’s vapor locking how long would it take to be able to turn over again? What would you put on the lines to insulate them?

The thing that gets me is it can run for 30 mins to an hour sometimes 😭

Probably either electrical or fuel related. Next time, try shooting ether down the carb. If it runs it's either vapor locked or you've got a bad fuel pump or clogged pickup screen. If that doesn't help, more than likely you have electrical problems related to heat.

Starting fluid scares me, unless I'm throwing full bottles into a roaring campfire. Tends to wash the cylinder walls. When I work on small engines, like lawn mowers, I have a small "squirt" type oil can filled with gas, and just give it a shot into the carb to keep it running while diagnosing.

Have you tried the fuel filter? A clogged fuel filter will run for a while and then die. If you let it sit the fuel will slowly fill up the filter and you can run again for awhile.
