found a YJ to buy - input please

Hi everyone -

just joined the forum...trying to get into my 1st Wrangler.

one of the things i noticed right away when searching for one...the price difference across the board. very hard to figure out what A JEEP is actually worth.

Can you give some input on this:

Jeep wrangler YJ

has 99,000 miles, and asking $14,500.

Thank you.

Nice Jeep but WAY too much he's asking. That's a 6-8K tops Wrangler in my opinion.

That's a nice jeep, but there is no way he is going to get his "investment" back. For one in that condition I would say like $7500 max is all I would offer. But I'm in Alabama, so prices down here may be lower.

Great miles, and nice looking Jeep, but that's way too much. About half as much would be about right.

The G2 stickers on the diff covers adds at least 2k.

Seriously, looks like they just put a G2 sticker on the stock axle covers. They may have put in some stronger axle shafts from G2, but that still doesn't add up to what they're asking. It's a nice looking Jeep though.

I just bought a 93 about a month ago. Prices on junk were between $5500 and $6000. Decent examples were up around $8000 or more, but this price is WAY too high. Honestly, a YJ in that condition seems to be going for around $9000-$10000 retail. Assuming it is what is advertised that is. Sounds like he has $12000 in it because he paid shops to do everything.

Yeah I'd hit him at 6k-7k. It's 22 years old. There's broken things and rot to be found. Also with that tire tread and never been off road? COME ONNN LOL

As others have said, too expensive.

I bought a 95 6cyl with 130k, on it a year and a half ago. I have put over $20k into it. It's basically stock except for a lift.

If I sold it, I'd expect $10k at the most.

A good amount of that Jeep you're looking at isn't even stock. People want stock so they can create their own jeep. Most people don't want what other people wanted to make it their jeep.

It's one of the Jeep paradoxes...as you put more money into your jeep, it a lot of times makes it less attractive to own for others...thus lowering its worth.

Looks like about $6,500 to $7,000, Down here, a lot of what he put into it was just keeping it Maintained, you can't charge for getting it into the condition it should already be in, Plus, Chrome Wont Get You Home!!!

Keep looking, good Jeeps are out there and if you are patient you will find what you are looking for price wise. I looked for over 6 months, I priced the one in question but knew he was just trying to get out all he put into it. Sorry but it doesn't work that way. I found a 2 owner, grage kept 93 for 5K, and all it really needed was an oil pan and alignment. Keep the faith and be patient.

Invested $12K. Asking $14.5 should read....
SPENT $12K. Dreaming about turning a profit.

You NEVER recover the "investment". There must be some depreciation. Its a
Just
Empty
Every
Pocket

Looks clean. No idea how solid the frame is. SOLID frame.... Its a $6K Wrangler tops. Besides half of the 12K investment looks to be chrome. Which really has NO value. It adds nothing to the Jeep capability. And first thing you will do is replace all those ugly 1970s tubular chrome parts.

reguardless of price, inspect the frame very carefully . read up on this site.. ROT ROT and more ROT is the enemy of all these rigs.. the frames are made of a rectangular tube that unlike "C" shaped channel gather crud/mud/water and rot really bad. the first thing to always consider on any jeep is the frame condition.. you can change parts and modify things but your polishing a T if its about to snap in half.
