Front End Damage

Hello: I refer to this column often and has helped me quite a bit. I am not a builder so to say, but acquired a 1994 YJ 4.0 10 years ago. I moved to ranch property and use it religiously to maintain property, as well as tow trailers of rock and feed, and it gets me out to country to do occasional shooting! I have sworn by this thing, as it also got me to work and back in the snow.

Unfortunately, I had a tire blow out on freeway yesterday and hit the median. The fenders look a tad buckled, the bumper on one side is bent in, the right front light is hanging, and the steering is off. The hood will not shut as the front end is pushed in about 2 inches.

I am devastated over this and was just curious, does this damage sound repairable or is it a loss with frame damage.

I will BE LOST without my Wrangler and am hatin it right now. That thing was a workhorse for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks!

Doesn't sound like it hit hard enough to bend the frame, I'd rebuild it. You can go junkyard shopping for body panels or go aftermarket, plenty of bumpers to choose from, the fronts are pretty simple, you can change the steering out to OE or go one of the kits.

THANKS MAN!! I am looking into both rebuild and getting another. It's runs well, has a rebuilt tranny, and has NEVER failed me, so might be worth doing what you say!

Absolutely it's worth rebuilding, a Kia is a throw away car!!!! A jeep is NOT! Anything and everything can be replaced or repaired on a yj. Sounds like you just need to hit up some part outs on Craigslist or the local junkyard

Quadratech was cheaper than FLEABAY on stock steel fenders, but I am liking the barricade fenders on extremeterrain.com , there's a crown stock bumper on ebay for 75 bucks. Two fenders and a bumper are all the visible damages look to be. I will go through the front suspension parts soon too!

I have found complete body tubs on Craigslist before. That would be the way to do it, atleast all the paint would be matching!

Two used Barricade Bumpers and a brand new OEM style bumper cost me 235.00. Don't care about paint anymore, Getting a DODGE RAM TRUCK in October, have a Jeep Liberty and a Dodge Dakota, along with this Wrangler that is workhorse and desert adventurer! Done, BOOM! Out!

Poor Girl

I got the bumper off yesterday, One bolt (Frame) was bent under and I had to use heat, cutter, air chisel to get it off!! I loosened the leaf spring shackle to asses damage, when I put it back together, it looks bent? I also unbolted the fenders to get the grill more forward. The hood still DOES NOT MESH UP.

Today I am going to take measurements and unbolt the CENTER bolt under radiator area, as I found both those on the forum today!

ID:	2297601GOT THE HOOD TOO SEMI LINE UP and yes, undoing that center bolt did it! BUT, I am worried about how far forward I had to push the grill adjusters!! Also, there is a big gap between hood and cowl!

Upon measuring, I saw that the cab seemed to have moved backward on the frame rails, which explains most of the visual damage and attempts at getting things lined up! Any ideas on how to fix this? Is it toast?

The pics are on side that hit: First mount, second, then last. The other side shows no movement like this!

Looks like the bolts may have bent, doesn't look like brackets are bent but the tub may be a little. I'd buy new body mount hardware take off that side and jack the body up to see how the tub looks. Just might take new bolts and bushings.

OK, thanks. The grill had to move over so far that the center bolt is off with mount by a good inch and 1/2!! Actually, in the pictures I meant to say looks like rail moved back a bit.

Do they have the mount bushings at O SMIELLY or Autogouge??

Some of sponsors should have them, I like Daystar Body mounts and lift parts.

If the Bumper hit the wall right at the right frame then the Frame may be out of Square, it needs to be checked, that may be what has things out of line. If the frame is bent it can be fixed also, and that frame look way to rust Free to trash.

Ok, I am hoping when I get the fenders next week and mesh things up the best I can, it is drive-able at least. I don't have the $$$ for a frame straightening! It will not be a daily driver at all!!

Bought a TJ

will still be around. Going from a 4.0 to a 2.5 wasn't a HUGE difference except top end. I just thought the mileage would be better with a 4cyl, but it's not, might be same or worse than the last GUZZLER!
