Gears

Have a buddy putting 4.88 in my 2.5L. Is the best gear oil 75-90 and how much will I need for both axles? He's telling me it's going to take a day and a half per axle does this sound right?

I would say a day and a half per axle is correct, if he is working by himself.

3 qts. per axle is what you need. Actually its 2.75qts. is what they hold.

75W90 is the correct weight. I have royal purple synthetic in mine. Don't know if its actually any better for the added cost, but they do seem to run cooler with the synthetic oil in them.

A day & a half per diff to do a gear swap? You sure he didn't say hour & a half?

1 1/2 days per axle is an excessive amount of time for a competent mechanic.
