Got Rearended Yesterday

Now I know that some of y'all are not happy until you have torn something up on your JEEP, so you can begin to repair it again. Well, not me. Some kid was grooming himself in the driver visor vanity mirror and "forgot" to watch how to drive. I was turning off a highway and he hit me a pretty good lick. My rear quarter panel is bent up all way under the passenger side door. The bumperette is ruined. Luckily I have a massive hitch which prevented any further damage. If there had been any other vehicle coming from the other direction we would all have been killed. I was rocketed across the intersection and barely missed hitting a telephone pole. Nobody hurt, except my pride. Damn I need a drink. I'm sick over the damage to my beloved YJ. At least his insurance will repair it for me.

Gots to have a pic to see the damage and have something to make us all thankful it didn't happen to us. Plus I like carnage.

LOL I know many of us here like carnage! Now if it were the OTHER side that the damage was done to, then I'd be thankful. It was already bent up so I could have gotten it fixed at someone else's cost, haha. I'll take a pic but I have absolutely no idea how to get it put up on here.

Clay, I swear he told the sheriff that that's what he was doing. I wish he'd done it somewhere else. You can be in the right, to the max, but also be run over by some idiot. It happened fast, too. If I had been driving any other vehicle other than my JEEP, it probably would have had to be towed away from the scene by a wrecker. As it was, I just casually drove away when it was all over.

LOL Some of y'all sound like you're almost as big of a degenerate as I am. The officer told the boy that he could drive it, BUT if it were HIM, he wouldn't. His air bag didn't deploy and he was afraid that it might do so while he was driving the car home. It was a mess, though. I'd say there was a couple of thousand dollars damage to his car. Let me see if I can upload a couple of pics. I had very slight damage, but to me that's too much!

Pics of my JEEP Damage

In the top pic, the bumperette is flattened and the quarter panel is mashed flat. In the second pic, you can't see it hardly but there are wrinkles under the front corner of my door and in the JEEP name. Third pic, the flare is pushed out by the wrinkles in the panel. I know, RED DOORS??? i am going to get them painted soon (or else get the entire JEEP painted to match the doors).

This is very slight damage, I know, but it wasn't my fault and I just want it fixed back up to original condition. Wish I had a big pipe bumper rather than the bumperettes!!!

Seems like a a bad idea on his part to admit he was "grooming himself" That is considered inattentive driving and a guaranteed ticket. He also basically guaranteed his insurance will have to pay the whole amount instead of splitting it with yours.

Looks like he hit you hard enough to turn your door red. Ha. Seriously though, sorry to hear you got hit. Good to hear you are o.k. you'll be back in good shape. Just don't let the insurance company try to bondo anything. They tried it with me when I had extensive hail damage. Best part was I took my jeep to a local 4wd shop that specializes in jeep, got to do some building with what I saved on repair costs from what insurance cut me a check for.

I literally hit a telephone pole today and drove mine home. Raining to beat the band and traffic stopped short. Rather than rear end the guy in front of me I steered off the side of the road between another pole and some mailboxes but couldnt avoid the other pole. Banged up the heavy steel front bumper and crunched the fender flare on drivers side. Guess its time for some new tires.

Thanks to the help of another Jeeper I was able to get out of the ditch and drive it home.

Glad to hear everyone's ok. But just so you know I work at a body shop and make sure you get good money for that hit. That is no light hit. To make ripples all the way to your doors is not a light hit. So make sure you get a couple of good estimates.

a steel tube bumper wouldn't have made any difference, the bumperettes are stronger in your case, probably could have been worse. glad your ok

Your welcome! And If you need me to look at those estimates just shoot me a pm so I notice it quick and I'll get you my email. And with some pics and the estimate I can try my best to make sure you get the most out of it. If they miss anything I'll let you know. You will just have to get as many pics to me as possible. Too bad you dont live near me. I could take care of the whole process for you.

IMO: that wrinkle might cause the Jeep to total, whatever you do, KEEP IT, you might have a salvage title in the end, but the possibility of 2 jeeps in your future.....

Think of it this way, whats the wholesale value of your Jeep (this is the number the insurance companies use,at least here in Cali), then look at the estimate, if the estimate is 20% below your wholesale value.....
I just ran into this with my wife's 04 Neon, $3K damage to a $3500 wholesale vehicle.

Ron, glad to hear you are ok, I think those bumperetts are like a spring on the rear of your jeep, when he hit you, it compressed and then released a bit and sent you on your way. Well, you were going to have it painted and the old damage fixed anyway, this should help you pay for it.

I like those red doors!

Thank everyone for your great ideas and concerns! I have an ace in the hole, the gentleman that my wife works for owns a paint and body shop. So, I think we can get things in to perspective fairly well. Tony, thank you for the offers! I wish we were all closer, geographically. There could be some great rides made!

Budro, at least the wreck didn't damage my new designer red doors!! Hopefully I can begin to get things in order pretty soon now. I'm enjoying the soft top, and it all seems like I have a different vehicle.

I hope everyone else has good luck with their driving. Stay alert!!!

No problem were here to help. And that sucks that in cali they pay wholesale. Not here in CT. It's some where between private party sale and retail. Well it does help knowing the adjusters.
