I wanted to like the JL but there is too much to hate about it. They said at first it would be available with a diesel and last i read that a diesel will no longer be an option, strike one.
I have hated the NSG370 since it was in the TJ and they were failing at alarming rates. When i heard the JL was going to have a Asian transmission i was a little excited that Jeep was finally using a quality transmission again. But the transmission is so long they had to make an already too long JK even longer with the JL just to make it fit, strike two.
The best part of the JK was the dana 44 axles, to be honest i am jealous of them. Except that they are to wide and if i had a set i wouldn't put them under my YJ because of it. I just like that they are beefier than the 44's used in the TJ or the XJ and if they were the correct width i'd have them under my YJ. But the JL went back to a axle disconnect on the front end and i HATE axle disconnects. If they wanted to disconnect the front axle they should have just put locking hubs on it. strike three.
I think the grill looks much better on the JL though (even though its plastic), the JK front end always had a dopey cartoonish look. But jeep failed with the parking lights why didn't they just make them round and put them under the headlights where they belong?
There was a time when i thought where any new car was great. There is something about the new car smell and how clean everything is and how well the ride and drive. But sadly new cars have gotten to the point where i cant stand them i would rather drive something from the 80's 90's or 2000's. The government is killing car culture with safety and emissions mandates new cars are no longer something to get excited about for me and i don't want to drive them.
Even though the EPA is going to scrap the other guys fuel efficiency standards i don't think this situation is going to get any better. In 20 years all cars will be electric and they will all be autonomous and fossil fuel engines will be banned.
The JL is no Red Barchetta
