Hard Top Back Glass

I've found 2 tops for my white Wrangler but can't decide which to buy. 1 that is intact and good condition for $550 (tan), and the other is in good condition but missing the rear glass (grey). Both are about the same distance from us but the grey one would match better.

What are the chances of finding rear glass to fit it? And is it expensive? I've found places online that sell the glass alone, no latches, etc...

Should I go with the intact? Or save money and go without the rear glass?

I've got a hard top without the back glass. I wish I had the glass but it is what it is...I got a great deal on the jeep.

My recommendation is to get the complete top, then paint the fiberglass top what ever color you want.

I'm going with the complete hard top. Sounds like a lot of work and money to get the back glass + seals + hardware, etc.

Go with the complete one. I have searched locally for the glass and everyone wants big bucks for that glass $450+. Mine has plexi glass in it right now

Is there a specific type of paint to use? I almost hate to paint it even, b/c of the good condition it's in.

you could also herculine it. jc whitney carries black, gray, red and white. look at quadratech for the glass. less than $400.00.

hard top back glass

just ask the auto part guy what kind of paint is good for that. i do NOT agree in paying 400 dollars for a rear glass.. arould here i can get the whole top for that. should only take about 20 bucks worth of paint. and a few hours work.

Tops are super easy to paint, and herculine isn't a bad idea either. Only thing is, dirt can be hard to get off herculine. If you're like me, and you don't care about dirt...then that's what I would use.

Painted mine with Rustoleum Flat Black in a can, oil based. Just cut in with a brush around windows etc and rolled on everything else with one of those hot dog rollers. Came out great! Took 2 coats and about an hour per coat.

Scratched it a bit from the bolts under my lights on the light bar and it touched up nicely with a cheap throw away brush. Blended right in and can't tell it was touched up, where a semi gloss would flash where you touch it up.

The top took every bit of a quart of paint, in fact had about 2 tablespoons left over! Happy I went this route because even after 3 or 4 washings, it still looks great. It is a much more even paint coverage than the rattle cans, and should be easy to touch up for many years. But if it looks crappy when I go to reinstall next fall, I'll just throw another coat on.

Also picked up some of that tinted window film at Lowes and blacked out the windows. Much happier than the old gray top with clear windows.

That looks great!

Picked mine up yesterday. It's tan and color's in condition, but I like that flat black so I'll probably do what you did.

Thanks everyone!
