Hard Top to what kind of top??

So I have a Hard Top, with Full Steel doors. I finally pulled the top off after getting the frame fixed and pulled the doors after fixing some locking and window issues.

Well now I want to rock doorless and with a soft top of some sort. The cost of a new top with frame etc is a bit prohibitive, and it looks like a safari might be the best since I have a 92 with the family bar. Any suggestions, opinions, brands, etc? I know at the very least I will need the front windshield bar.

Also I've been looking at the trail tops / emergency tops as something I could just slap on in the driveway in the event of rain, or drive with if need be. Then I would need the rails which starts to add up.

I might try to save up for a softopper frameless as that will at least work with the my round hard doors. They really dropped the ball on the soft top hard top shapes didn't they.

I have a hardtop and full doors from the factory, but I got a softopper back in March. It's been really nice, I was actually surprised when I first put it on and drove around. I also have a safari top with a windjammer made by bestop that work well for keeping the sun off, but anything else and they kinda lose their uses. I'd rather have the softopper than a safari and windjammer combo to be honest. I can go safari mode with the softopper in a matter of minutes, and put it all back together in the same amount of time, plus I get protection from the rain. If I were you I'd save up over the winter months(read: fast approaching winter months) and keep the hard top on, then come April or May get a softopper or whatever soft top you want for summer.

I'd say get a frameless soft top if you have the family roll bars. I think the frame is a hassle and a pain to put up and down. Rattles, storage issues. The frameless are a bit pricey tho. I don't own a frameless presently, just telling you my experience with a regular soft top with the frame.

The goal is the softopper frameless but at $600'ish it's a way off. So I'll probably drop the $100 and get a bikini and windshield frame to get me through the fall. I'm in VA and typical short commutes so I'm all for the open air!

Check out Craigslist for the bikini, I got a guy in Tucson to ship on to me in albuquerque for $20. If you can't find one used then just go to a local four wheeling supply place (4wheelparts, desert rat, etc.) and they have several in stock.
