Hardtop/Soft top

Iíve taken my hard top off and on a couple times now this season. This is my first Jeep, so I am still honeymooning as it gets Sunny or Rainy.

Been planning a softtop, but needs to save a bit more for one. I could sell my hardtop (came with my Rio Grande from the factory) to help fund it, but canít decide if I should get rid of it.

Anyone been here? Any regrets in getting rid of the top? I will RARELY drive in the winter, so not worried about cold weather issues.

Thanks.

Soft top makes it go faster and undresses your jeep quicker. Get a high quality soft top to begin with though.

Are used to have a JK Unlimited with a hardtop and I think I took it off maybe five times in the four years that I owned it. On the other hand the soft top on my YG goes on and off with ease, and mostly stays off as long as itís not bitterly cold outside. I live in Northwestern Michigan, so it tends to get pretty chilly, but my soft top does more than enough to keep it warm inside. Of course my heater works, which is not the case with everybodyís Jeep.

I have had several jeeps with hard tops and hated them all. I ran a hard top on my current YJ for a while because i had one laying around but i was glad to get rid of it in favor of a Bestop Supertop. I would never get rid of full hard doors though.

I currently have 7 jeeps... 4 are tagged while 3 are projects.... of the 4 tagged jeeps, 3 have hardtops w full doors and I have absolutely no desire to remove the tops and very rarely pull doors... BUT I have to admit that on rare occasions when temps don't warrant heat or AC, I do enjoy rolling the back window and pulling the uppers from the half doors on the 4th one....

As far as changing seasonally, nah... pick the one you like and either sell or long term store the other

I run a HT with full doors from Nov to April...the rest of the year I run no top and no doors. Maybe it's just me growing up with Jeeps but I hate a soft top...constant noise, zipper windows, they all eventually leak and after a few years you can't see put the plastic...I pulled my soft top frame off when I took the tub off for paint ..it has been hanging on the wall of the garage and hasn't moved for 3 years. I know folks love them but I will pass.

This has been my thinking. Between rain and other reasons ( this time my son borrowing it while we fix his car) its been on and off. I think the take home here is I should keep the hard top. If nothing else, they are tougher to find as compared to a new soft top. Mine has a wiper as well, which I donít see on the oneís for sale.

Thanks.

I run a soft top mainly because it's not my DD. So on the days I wanna Jeep, I Jeep it right. Plus I live in an apartment so there is no room for a hardtop to be laying around.

Every jeep I've had with a hard top I've sold and bought a soft top
