Hella E-Codes

Does anyone have any experience with the Hella H4 100/55 watt bulbs over the 60/55 watts that come with the housings, I had to buy something else on Amazon to get to the $35 for free prime shipping so I grabbed a set of the Hella 100w high beams.

Before I throw them in, has anyone used them with the stock (70amp) Alternator? Will they kill my Stock Alternator wiring will the extra amp Draw? Any other concerns I should be looking out for. I'm thinking a half hour here or there shouldn't be to hard on the electrical system.

I did the wiring harness upgrade before I even bought the E-codes, which brought the stock sealed beams to life, then the E-codes made a phenomenal difference both on and off road, since I rarely use my High Beams on the road I thought I'd see what the 100w Highs would do out in the desert in the middle of the night, but I don't really care to fry anything electrical along the way.

Any advice is always welcome...

If you have any paperwork from the relay harness, it should give you specific info on what wattage lights it's designed for. If my brain is working correctly, mine stated 140 watts.

I did not like the bulbs that came with my E-codes i ran them for a while but i hated the yellow color. I swapped in Phillips X-treme vision +130% bulbs they put out clean looking white light and they are standard wattage.

Considering you upgraded the harness, no problem with the draw. The 70 amp alternator is sufficient to keep things charged with 100w bulbs. Nominally, each bulb draws about 7 to 8 amps.

I’m running 100/130 watt Hella bulbs with a battery relay upgrade with no issues. Now the bulbs won’t last as long as lower wattage ones. But they were cheap,$2.80 on sale at Quadratec.

Honestly these work really well. I have Phillips Exreme Visions in my old 2002 F150 ,9006’s, and their good but the Hella’s are brighter and illuminate farther down the road but more yellow.

This is not a fair side by side comparison though. Stock Ford housing and wiring vs E Code with batter/relay.

When these Hellas burn out I’ll try these.

55 watts bulbs draw 4.58 amps. 65 watts draw 5.41 amps. A 100 watts bulb draws 8.33 watts. Running 2 100 watts bulbs is 16.66 amps. There is plenty of power left for anything else. Alternator should be efficient enough for you.
