Help! I am a Gross Polluter...

Just took my '89 in to get emission tested and failed miserably. Apparently, the PO during his build opted out of putting a cat conv in. So that was an automatic visual inspection fail, but I also failed everything else, probably due to the lack of the CC. I found a Cal legal converter by MagnaFlow for $160, but the only place I can find to fit it is under skid plate. This would put it only about 10 inches from the muffler. Is this okay?

should go next to the t-case and above the skid/almost resting on skid, on my 95 sticks out just a bit to the rear of the t-case skid.

I just replace the cat on my '90 yj. It is a very short distance from the muffler and under the skid plate. This really isn't a very tough job if everything isn't rusted to tight. Remember to get the crush gasket with the cat. Don't ask why I bring this up other than it saves another trip to the store when you realize the cat doesn't come with one. One piece of helpful advice is to support the drive line and tranny with jack stands prior to completely lowering the skid plate. It will help when you have to get the plate back onto the bracket when reassembling.
