help - I canít drive in the rain

I have a 1990 Jeep YJ automatic with a 4.2L strait 6 cly. Itís in great shape and runs awesome except in the rain or on a wet day. Sometimes it just wonít start and other times it will shut down after I get going. It will turn over and start to run but as soon as I disengage the starter it loses all electrical power to the engine. Hereís where it gets strange, if I hold the key on so the starter is engaged and shift the jeep into drive while still holding the key, the starter shuts off and the jeep will run. Then after holding the key on for about 30 seconds or so I can let it go and it will run fine for a while.

Plugs, wires, coil, distributor points, carb and fuel pump are all new.

please help if you can.

there may be a crack in the distributor cap or there is a falty seal that is letting moisture in, thats my guess

The distributor cap is new too, but I'll take a look at it for sure. Thanks.

When the engine is dry you can spray the cap with wd40 to displace the moisture.
