How much can you afford to spend? A come-a-long will work for minor pulling, but if your stuck bad, a electric is the way to go... if you have bigger budget.. I would look at the warn m8000, priced around $540 plus a winch plate.

I've been looking at the Smittybilt winches. Can't find anything wrong and the prices are in my budget. Maybe someone can chime-in with some experience with the little Smittys.

Does anyone have experience with this winch? I just need one that will hold up to pulling my jeep out and maybe a few friends vehicles. I don't do much wheeling so I don't need a big fancy one and I'm only 17 so I also don't have a ton of extra money.

Harbor Freight $59.99

http://www.harborfreight.com/camoufla...ead-95912.html

are you sure this winch would be strong enough to pull my jeep out? i think it's for atv's, but if it would work for my jeep i'd definitely buy it.

I dont think it would work, jeep only weighs around 3000 but if it's in mud or anything kinda tricky i dont think this winch would work. I think the rule for winches is that it has to be 3 times the weight of your vehicle? or twice im not 100% sure but that winch isnt strong enough.

Its atleast 2X the vehicle weight, if you've got one thats 3X then thats a darn good winch

Nope. Not big enough. The rule of thumb is 2x the weight of your vehicle.

"Affordable" is cheap for a reason.. don't go cheap on a winch. Practice delayed gratification and save up $550.00 and buy a Warn.

But would't the Harbor freight wench be as good for light pull outs like hand operated a pull-a-long?
