Help me pick a paint color!!

I'm in the process of prepping my YJ for paint. I thought I had a color picked out. It is a Ford f150 magnetic grey metallic color. So I go to a Ford dealer to look at the color up close and make sure its what I wanted. I liked it, I really did. But then I see another truck sitting next to it and the color of that thing just jumped out at me, It looked so different yet so good. Its called Lead Foot Grey. It has no metallic. It gives it more of a rugged look it think. Only problem is I have no clue how it will look on a jeep. I've always been a fan of metallic, but this grey solid color looks pretty tough!! It reminds me Jeep Anvil but not as much blue in it. This with a black top would look good I think. I'm having hard time deciding. What is your guy's thoughts?

The one pic is Magnetic
The other 2 are Lead Foot, One inside, one in sunshine

Just go with the new JL color that looks like that. That way you can keep it in the family

IMO "Keeping it in the family" will only limit you to keeping it the same as everyone else with no taste.

If you are going to customize, go to House of Color and look at some of their products.

Customize means "putting your own touch" on a project.

Don't let narrow minded people tell you otherwise.

I have a Bronco II that will destroy 90% of the Jeeps in this fourm, but I still have a Jeep because they are fun.

Are you trying to come off as a total DBAG or does it come natural to you?

I do like the Jeep Anvil grey. It has a touch of blue in it from web pics, I haven't seen one in person yet. But if I'm going to do this I kinda wanted something to look totally different. But there can be a fine line between different and total sh!t.. This lead grey just popped at me and I don't know why. I went to house of color and almost had a brain overload lol! If I was painting a slick curvy car, i'd deff do a metallic.. But its a box YJ, I think this bold grey and black would look sick! Even thought of a black Alpha vinyl on center of hood break things up a bit.. My head is spinning with the all the colors

I am referring to the new color called stingray. Google it and you can see some photos. Close to anvil, but different

I like the magnetic but either would look good. Personally I think some older autos look better in duller colors vs brighter colors but just my 2 cents. Good luck on your choice and post some pics when you are done.

So you pretty well just burst my bubble, I really thought I was going to have something different. How the heck did I not run across this during the hours of jeep grey gray on google. Sting gray is almost the same as that lead foot. Maybe touch lighter but hard to tell without side by side.. Guess i need try find one at a dealer to look at it up close. These things out there in that color or special order type thing.
I do love metallic, i just don't know about on this particular jeep. Maybe i should try something different? I started with a bare frame on this thing, all the work that has been put into it, I really need to make it right

How many people love their Chrysler? Wait... I mean FIAT?

I'm actually the one with a Jeep 4.2 AMC and am about to get another one because I like it so much.

I really hope this forum isn't filled with a bunch of weekend warrior hipsters.
I will assume this is only a small sample that is backing some name calling inter-web coward.

Someone saw my Jeep today and said, "Holy Shit", who's Jeep? WOW that is SWEET!

Audi make a great silver/gray, you should google it.

Should he be limited to FIAT colors? They do have some nice ones, but Audi and BMW did it better first. Trust me, that isn't a Ford color concept first.

The one that calls a person a dbag is typically the biggest one of them all.

Off to work on my Jeep! LOVE IT!

If you have a blank canvas, how about a gray LineX or RhinoLiner

Owner, you didn't get called a name because of your B2 or because of brand loyalty....

The name calling is because you come off as arrogant and condescending....

Nobody cares to hear you say that your 'whatever' is better than 90% of what the rest of us have...

Maybe you can stop bragging and complaining and let the thread be about paint colors.

Further if someone wants to make a suggestion to 'keep it in the family' that is their right.... make your own suggestion and move on.....

I'm a retired body shop owner. We did primarily insurance work, but from time to time we'd get a customer that wanted a restoration and had the money to pay for it.
Oftentimes the restoration included a color change.

We had a gizmo that used adhesive backed plastic strips and the gizmo would stamp embossed letters or numerals on the plastic strip. Then we'd put the vehicle make and year of what ever paint color we used on the strip along with the paint code. Then, stick it on the inside of the glove box door.
People tend to forget stuff through the years and I found that to be the best way if we ever had to match the color in the future due to mods or collision.
Naturally the same info was on the customers bill, but not everyone saves all their bills.
If the vehicle got sold, the next shop would have an easier time of matching the new color.

I tried to steer my customers toward the same manufacturers family (Ford colors on Ford vehicles, GM colors on GM vehicles, Porsche colors on Porsche vehicles and so on). Some colors look good on one brand of vehicle, but not so much on another brand.
Back in the '60s Chrysler had a color called "Plum Crazy". It seemed everyone and their brother wanted their car painted that color. Can you imagine a '68 Camaro RS in "Plum Crazy"?

Bottom line is, Pick a color that pleases YOU. In the car business we'd say "There's a butt for every seat but not every butt will fit every seat".
If someone doesn't like your choice of colors for YOUR Jeep, let them paint their seat a color that their butt likes.
Just don't forget the vehicle manufacturer, year and paint code of whatever color you use.

Good Luck, L.M.

Rhino FTW!! Steel blue in sun. Gray at dusk/clouds, and almost black in low light conditions.

If I ever have the occasion to repaint a vehicle, however, I am going with Cranberry Firemist, a color Cadillac used in 1974.

Got a 99 tj that is in Gunmetal pearl...half the paperwork lists it as grey, and the other as blue....you want a custom look? You can keep.it in the family with a long discontinued color....something that just ain't available for your average baby buggy these days....
I get looks and compliments regularly on the TJ....if I ever repaint, it'll still be gunmetal pearl....mostly because I like it.

+1 For magnetic.
Lead foot looks WAY to much like ugly grey primer imo.
