How much money in your yj?

I saw a thread in the tj section about how much money people have in their rigs, and thought it would be a good one for us to have!

I have a list of items to do on mine, and don't want to get too crazy

I bought my 1992 4 cyl in December with 75,000 miles on it for 5,000 and have put 1,000 into it for a radiator, new seals, and fluid flushes. Makes my total 6,000.

What about everyone else??

I don't want to know a total I've put into the 5 Jeeps I've owned but let's just say I could have paid cash for a brand new 1/2 ton crew cab 4x4 or a lightly used 3/4 ton diesel

Well I've bought mine in 2010 for $2K. I've probably spent somewhere in the vicinity of $5K on it so far. This winter will be an expensive one...axles and OX lockers!

I'll wager I'm one of the craziest on here. I have close to 20k in mine.

However, my goal is different than most here. I wanted to get a 95 sahara and get it as close to showroom as possible.

The things we do.

I think to myself, I could have gotten an 08 JK for that. Then I remember that YJs are cooler.

Got mine for 4k, plan to dump a total of 8-10k in it including a v8 swap. So probably more like 12k and a total of 16k for what will end up being a pretty new beast isn't too bad, at least that is what I tell myself.

After a frame up rebuild, I have a good idea on the money I've spent, but I could be off a little. It's right around 10K. Here's the list... the bottom right numbers are the parts that I've sold.

I paid 650 for mine and have about 5 k in it. That doesn't include the paint job it's getting as I write this and the list of little things I would like to do..

Bought mine for $1800 and have about $1000 into it just to get it running and drivable. Will probably take another $1000 just to get it safe to drive.

Need seats reupholstered, new seat belts, new tires, doors and a top.

this. This whiteboard is how people don't go into debt I will make this tomorrow, and include what I want and he grand total of the ever changing "project/build".
Let's see, 7300 for the heep, 5 for DIY kwick discos, 10 for paracord to make handles, 17 for the replacement hardware for the handle, 15 for the desert rat grab bars, 30 for the Nerf bars, and I just bought a visor(those pieces of crap, mine broke!) for 20 and replacement door-glass seals for 15 each or 30 together, so that makes $7427. Lol, not bad.
@Dral97 If you are trying to restore yours, you would have LOVED mine when I bought it. It was COMPLETLY stock. Everything. That's why I paid $7300 for my RG.

I bought mine for the basement bargain deal of 1000 bucks.

I'm not sure how much I've spent on parts and upgrades.
33x12.5 BFG ATs - 750
new wheels - 250
4.5"X RC lift - 400 (?)
SYE - 250 (?) I bought the lift and SYE together
Front bumper - 200
Rear bumper with tire carrier - 300
hard top - 500
full doors - 150
Sheetmetal - 300 ish
4.10 axles - 600
driver seat "flip" bracket - 75
Winch and mount plate for hitch receiver in bumpers - 500

In addition to the direct expenses, there's of course maintenance stuff (filters, wipers, battery, etc). Then of course there's all the in-direct costs. New tools, replacement tools for stuff that broke, MIG wire, CO2, saw blades, etc. It's been a lot, and I'm planning more.

Paid $16,000 new in 92, rebuilt the whole thing starting about 2 years ago and have a little over $10,000 in it. I'll put about another $2000 mostly for a cage and other finishing touches. Still cheaper than a new jeep and a lot more capable than a stock one.

Paid 4500$ in 2011 - all stock

~1600$ in personalized cosmetic mods

~500$ in basic routine maintainence

~500$ in actual mechanical issues

4 years = ~7100$

Multiply by 4 again (so 16 years of ownership) and you have the sticker price of my brand new 04 TJ....yeah i think i made a wise choice with the YJ

About $4k.

Picked it up for $3,200. It's a 92 4.0, 5 speed Sahara. $600 at quadratec for carpet, seat covers and door panels. I have had a couple minor repairs (water pump, battery, starter, clutch cylinder). Paint is faded, but it's pretty solid and seemingly reliable right now. Came sitting on new 31's and looks like 2.5" - 3" lift.

Now my 1988 XJ is a different story. We bought that one for $600.00. We did a lot in the first year with D44, gears, lockers, D30 beef up, lift, tires, SYE, drive shaft, skids, sliders, bumpers, etc, etc, etc, quickly got up to $10k. It's the ugliest jeep we have, but it's a billy goat on the rocks and you don't have to worry about beating it up.

I don't think any jeep that even looks the same as some another with the same parts, would have the money spent on it. it depends on how much work was done by the owner and how much labor was paid for.
I am sure a lot of people think we are nuts spending so much on an old jeep, but we love them so they get the cash.
I don't want to add up what I spent and still spending!

For sure.

A quarter of mine is from the work I'm having done to it now. PO put in a lift and didn't do transfer case drop. Took it to a jeep specialty place. The supports and frame in that area are rusted. Basically as we speak, my jeep is off it's frame and the frame is cut in half.

That was way more work than I could handle.

the initial cleaning is the worst one. I went from looking like Crap to this in about 3 days now I keep it clean and get compliments all the time and here's its current state I just wash it after every wheeling trip and wax it quarterly

I figure around $4200 total.

That includes: A used Western plow & mount, the hard top & full doors, floor pan, frame repair, steering column bearing, winter wheels & tires, new brakes, intake manifold replaced, factory repair manual and a plethora of other small repairs & fluid changes.

Zero dollars in labor costs. Lot of time spent though!

Bought mine (4 cyl. 5 speed) a few months ago for $3500 with 130K miles on it. It's in excellent, pretty much un-molested, rust free condition. Just after market rims and 30" BFG's on it.
Put a 2 1/2" spring lift kit in it, $450, and a rear lunchbox locker, $250.
Right now I'm making a rear rack for it, probably have $50 in materials into that.

Hopefully will have it back by third week in July. Fingers crossed.

When I get it back, hopefully just a final tune up and a few cosmetic upgrades and I'm gtg.

Good thing, is I have some stuff to sell...stock steering wheel, sahara tire cover x2, good set of tires, center speaker pod, and some seats. Should get me back another 1200 or so.
