How to tell the difference

Okay. So I know how to tell the difference between CJ5's and CJ7's by looking at the angle of the rear quarter. YJ's obviously have square headlights. So what are the easy ways to distinguish between TJ's and JK's at a glance? Also other than coil springs on TJ's what other notable mechanical differences are there between them all? I basically want to be able to tell them all apart easily while impressing my friends with some interesting but trivial Jeep knowledge.

I would say look at the grill of a jk its angled back a bit and the fenders are basically the flares. Notice the tj has metal fenders then a flare. The jk obviously has a four door model and two door model. Also i think the grill of a jk is wider and not as tall as the tj. Under the hood is a big difference. Tj has the 4.0 and 2.5 while the jk has the 3.8. I am no expert but just giving some tips. Im sure some of the other guys might know a little more.

On tj's the turn signals are in the fenders
JK it's back on the grill.
Tj hood is taller/deeper
JK hood is slimmer/shallower
Tj bumper is usually metal
JK bumper is usually plastic
Tj doors are about 4in above the base of the tub
JK doors are more like other vehicles with little to no lip above tub

If you just look at pics, it's pretty obvious, thought I can't really think of anything specific besides what jeepjunkee said. It doesn't take long before you can just tell at a glance what it is.

Just look at the Wrangler forum background of all the jeeps lined up. The first two red ones are JKs and TJs. The first one is tj and second is jk. The way i distinguish them both is the front. They are similar, but you can tell the difference pretty easy. I find it hard to tell from the back of early tjs and yj. They both look so similar from the back. but once u see the front, its easy.

Just wanted to add one more small detail. The hardtops of a tj is rounded more in the back and the jk is a little more square. And for the rears of the tj and yj i look for the gas filler on the driver side of the tj. The yj has it behind the license plate.

The door handles also changed from the TJ to the JK.

Look just behind the windshield on the driver's side. With a JK, you'll usually see a soccer mom there.

Or if you jeep wave and the other driver looks confused its a pretty dead give away that its a jk. Another legit give away is that the tj has a deeper trans case skid.

I don't think it was mentioned - but the top of the doors on a JK are squared corners.
Also the angle at the bottom of a door is not rounded on a JK (kind of like the difference between CJ-5 and 7)

So what does the ride feel like in those TJ's and JK's with their fancy-pants coil springs?

Rubicon Express short arm lifted TJ on overinflated 35" M/Ts, like going down the "Up" escalator on a lunch tray...

I thoroughly enjoy riding those soccer moms...I mean riding LIKE those soccer moms!!

Truthfully, the JKU is wonderful, I get jeep off road capability, and topless ability, it rides like a car for long trips, and minivan function of multiple doors/kids/hauling crap(and might as well say it before y'all do, engine too!! Rofl!).

I absolutely love it and it is perfect for my place in life right now.
