I'm so disheartened and frusterated.

So I bought a new infamous plastic valve cover for my 89 2.5 because the other one was cracked and spraying oil everywhere. When I went to bolt the new one down, it seemed once you bolted one end, all the other holes would not line up with the head. I tried just about everything I could think of to get it to line up. I'm afraid if I force it to much though, it won't seal right and I'll be back to square one. An aluminum one would be ideal, if I could even get one for this engine. Gimme some advice?

It's a "criss-cross" tightening procedure. Tighten top right bolts-then left bottom bolts, then flip, Left to right bolts (only 1/4 of the way!). Continue around the valve cover in this cross tightening pattern.

After every bolt is a quarter way down, repeat the steps until half way down, then mostly down, and then finally down to the head surface.

You need a torque wrench to properly crank every bolt down for the last part using the same procedure.

I'm guessing either it's the wrong valve cover or you need to flip it around 180* That's all I can really think of. Good luck and if you figure it out you should post the answer.

FNJeep: Thank you for the advice. I'll give that a shot in the morning. Hopefully I'll find success. I'm actually off to another junkyard to get some parts. This has turned out to be a project car.

Argyll1984: It's the right one, and flipping it around wouldn't work because the oil fill has to be in the front anyway. but thanks for the input. And I'll deffinatly report back as to what I did.

Sweet Jeeps, by the way.
