Insurance/Registration

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to buy an older YJ that is 26 years old. I was wondering how insurance and registration in the state of NJ works considering it is of classic age. Any important facts I should know? Should I insure the vehicle under normal insurance? Im only planning on driving it to the Jersey Shore and back a few times here and there. Thanks.

Don't know anything about New Jersey options. But if it has a higher value than the typical 26 year old jeep, look into a "declared value" policy. That will raise the comp / collision lines to an agreed maximum and the premium will be calculated based on that value, not the actual cash value.

Will cost a bit more on the front end, but if something does go wrong, will be much easier to resolve on the back end. I had a 1969 Volkswagen insured for 30k via AAA.

Out here in CA, older jeeps are relatively inexpensive. I only insure my XJ and YJ for liability purposes since they would both be affordable to replace.

If you have more vehicles than drivers on your policy look into a collector car type of policy. I had that on my VW bus. It was stupid cheap and the only requirement was some limited annual mileage and primary use was for hobby or events. (Basically a weekend toy). - honestly I think my bus was less than $200/year including full coverage.
