Is this YJ priced right?

Hey guys just looking for a little advice. I'm looking at buying another wrangler but I'm not sure if the price sounds good. The jeep I'm looking at is a 93 YJ with the I-6 4.0L, 5spd, soft top and half doors. It has only 73,000 miles on it and I'd be surprised if this thing has ever seen a trail in its life. I'm not in the states right now so I can go look at it yet, but from the pictures I've been sent it looks like it has been kept in excellent condition. I blue booked it for around $5800 but he is selling it for $6900. Looking at anything else that I can find around on autotrader.com this his price doesn't seem so outrageous. I just am not sure about paying $1000 more than blue book for a vehicle. Do you guys think its worth it considering your current market situation compared to this or is he asking to much. He stands firm on the price as it is. Thanks for the help.

Well, if you can have some one go and look at it, that is what I would do. As for the price I am always willing to pay a bit more for something in expectional condition, but at the same time if other example can be found for far less then I would keep looking. One other good thing to keep in mind, if you had to sell it the day after you bought could you get the same price?

Luckily for me the guy is former Navy, and knows that I am currently deployed so he has offered to hold on to the jeep and quit taking calls on it until I get back in a couple months to look at it and drive it. Its hard to say no to an offer like that, but I will feel bad if he waits and I end up not buying it off of him, even though he says he wouldn't mind that.

I think it's a steep price. In the NorthEast you could get a 4cyl 97 TJ with similar mileage/accessories for that price or less. A '97 6cyl isn't too much more. For the YJ's asking price I would expect full doors, hard top, brand new tires. Maybe it has a Dana 44 upgrade?

Jeepmutt,

This jeep is in SC and has had no mods besides newer tires (they look slightly larger than stock probably 31's). The guy is selling it because he doesn't use it enough. So mods were never anything he was interested in. Like I said this thing has never seen a trail....probably never even a dirt road for that matter. Thanks to all for the info, I'll keep you updated on the situation. Even if not this one, I would love to get another jeep when I get back home.

I'd pay almost that for it., He'd have to come down a little, though. The fact that he hasn't modded it makes it worth a little more to me.

Beware of 97 TJs for that price. Especially the 4 cyl.

I agree that the Jeep is worth more if it hasn't been modded. That's something to think about if you do buy the Jeep. Mods are nice but be careful and not get carried away. There's something to be said for preserving the YJs that are left. As for the 4 cylinder - unless you're going with much larger tires, the 4 cyl runs fine and has a lot of torque. ....but that's another debate that will never end.

Former Navy here also.

You are the only person that can answer that question. If it is all you say it is, low miles, no rust, great condition and your good with the price go for it, who cares what the blue book is unless you are planning on flipping it for some money. I like the YJ's, well I like all of them for that matter but I had a budget when I went looking for mine and the only two options that were a must was no rust and a 6 cylinder. Sounds like a stand up guy too. Good luck and let us know how it works out. Thank You For Your Service America Rocks

Sounds like the seller is a standup guy with confidence in the value of what he's selling. I have seen a lot worse for not much less $$. Only you can really know what you you are looking for... and will be happy with.
