Is this YJ worth it?

hi guys! newbie here.

been looking at getting a jeep yj for a while. I had one when i was younger and have been craving getting one for years. I've been looking and i finally think I found the perfect one for me. it looks pretty cool and seems to have a lot of good stuff on it, but i just don't know what half of the stuff is and whether or not its worth the price. i've been looking for a really perfect one and i think this is it but just thought you guys cold give me your .02

Whoaaaaaa.

Thatís expensive. Way too expensive. Honestly, at that price heís trying to get more than he even has in the Jeep. Those are some great upgrades, but Iíve seen similarly-equipped YJís going for less than half that. And thatís in Seattle, which is already inflated.

Really depends on what youíre looking for. If itís a YJ with lift and tires mostly for looks, Iíd think $5k-$6k is a good budget for something clean.

If you want something similarly equipped to this one (rear axle swap, gears, etc), $6-8k.

Is this YJ worth it?

Either of these would be a much better value, IMO.

Removed...I canít vouch for any of those YJs at all.

Also...you mentioned you wanted a YJ. I would encourage you to look at TJs as well in that price range ($6k plus) if it doesnít have to be a YJ. Youíll be surprised what you can get for that much if you keep looking.

If you have $15k to spend, you can even find Rubicons that are 15 years NEWER. Letís be honest, a TJ Rubicon is 5x the vehicle that a YJ is.

I would rather spend the 15k on a restored CJ. Like everyone has stated, that YJ has some good stuff, but not 5 figures worth.

Hi guys! I'm actually the owner of the YJ posted in the ad. I wanted to say thanks for offering your thoughts on the price, it's nice to hear some feedback. I know $15k is VERY high. Two reasons - I don't want to sell it, and if I had to sell it that's what I'd want. I set it high with the hopes that it doesn't sell and I tell the girlfriend "Oh well - I tried but nobody wanted it"

But on a side note, I don't think it's only worth $5-$6k. Atleast not in Tucson. The market here is a little different since it's the middle of the desert and EVERYBODY wants a Jeep. Especially those with A/C in the Summer... I sold my CJ-7 that was nowhere near the Jeep for $8k - and it flew off craigslist.

I think it's worth anywhere from $8-9k. We all know YJ's with low miles and all these upgrades don't just appear. Anyone who wants to send me another Jeep for sale in the $5-$6k range I would implore you to look at the miles and it won't have anywhere near as many goodies (bumpers, lockers, AC,etc). If they are more common than I think then I definitely will admit my mental price should change.

@jeepyjlover65 - If you want a TJ then the ones Brent sent look good. As for the other red YJ - definitely don't buy it. It looks like a piece of junk. Halfass SOA lift only in the front with a bent leaf spring, missing turn signal stalk and rear hatch - it looks very Jimmy rigged. If you really are interested in my YJ, I will totally work with you on price. I'll do $9k to a Wrangler Forum member if you really want it. I won't be offended if you pass. Feel free to text or call me at (520) 404-4698

I do want to say I am not upset with any of you on your opinions...it was nice to hear some feedback so I appreciate it wholeheartedly and I'm sure the OP is happy to hear your thoughts and opinions - plus that's what this forum is for!

Happy Jeeping everybody!

Thatís awesome, Iím not used to actually seeing responses from CL sellers! Solid response and reasoning, I probably would have been more defensive if it was my Jeep. I usually have a similar tactic on CL...list it high, see how much feedback and lower until the price is right to find a buyer.

Looks like a solid build for sure, absolutely better condition than 90% of YJs out there. Best of luck with the sale!

Ps - my links were the result of about 0.5 sec of searching. A YJ is definitely something that has to be seen in person to make sure it doesnít have some of the issues you mentioned! Iíll admit Iím a little annoyed with how cheap those Rubicons are compared to what I have in my YJ .

Class act, my hat is off to you sir and I liked the rig also and in your neck of the woods I wouldn't think of selling it if I were you. Happy 4 wheeling.

Lol I was going to say that YJ looked awfully familiar!

So for those not familiar with AZ and closely surrounding areas, Jeep Wranglers command top dollar. I almost didn’t believe it myself when I started looking for my YJ 1.5 years ago. Beat up, 4-cyl YJ’s were selling for (and I mean selling!) $3-4K and needed some serious work. 6-cyl versions were fetching $5-6k rountinely. Many of them, regardless of engine, were built with questionable or unknown parts, had worn steering components, or were just plain dangerous (when everyone thought a SOA was just a “$75 lift!”).

I follow many ads on CL and Facebook and often reach out to a few people to see what theirs sold for (especially if they are similar to mine). They don’t last too awful long and although many are negotiable on price, there are usually buyers snatching them up.

And FWIW, TJ Rubi’s are seriously near early JKU prices - apparently every TJ Rubi has a factory gold bar stashed in the gas tank! LJ’s aren’t far off as well...

Truth.

I overpaid for my YJ a few years back. It's a 6cyl at 130k and I paid 6k. Oh well, I have over 20k in it at this point, but who's counting?

I just picked up an 04 TJ Rubi in April. I spent 17.5. It has a body lift (I know I know), 35s, new wheels, AM bumpers, 80k miles, PRISTINE interior. Love it.

Yes.

At this point the purchase price is way less than half of what I have in the Jeep. Makes me second-guess the YJ v TJ purchase...

@brentnclemson @Batjac

Thanks for the kind words guys! I'm just trying to be as honest as I can with this. I'm pretty well aware of what these things sell for and even at $15k I'm still going to lose money on this! But I know it's a labor of love and I'll never get my money out of it - I just would like to pass it on to someone who knows what it is and respects the work that's been done and can go have fun with it.

@pc1p - I was waiting for you to say something!! However I can tell everybody I've taken the ad down - I'm not ready to let it go. And as an FYI even with my insane asking price I was still getting a lot more interest than it should have. Unfortunately the OP hasn't been on since this has been posted and hasn't reached out to me, but I'd like to remind you @jeepyjlover65 even though I'm pretty sure I don't want to sell it, it wouldn't hurt to give me a call if you can give it a good home.

Either way thanks to all of you for your input, and for the time being my Jeep is staying with me

Kudos wild, u proved there is still some honesty in this country. Honesty is a rare commodity these days.

Anyway, I agree it's worth more than 6k. Around here, NW WI, to get something decent that is already lifted, 4.0 and a stick u start at 6k. I've seen alot at 5k that r junk. Heck, I have 10k into mine and it isnt as nice as yours. I had the axles rebuilt, new driveshaft etc, etc.... and I'm still not done underneath...

Nice rig...

Bringing a thread back from the dead for a little update. I did end up selling my YJ. It sold last Saturday for $9,000.

I bought a Cherokee a couple months ago and have driven the Wrangler a couple times - maybe 5 in the past months. I sold it to a guy right across the street to buy a truck that I'll use more.

I'll probably be sticking around the forum and helping where I can! But thanks to everyone for all the help with my Jeep and the forum as well. It's been fun!
