It finally happened :(

Hey everyone I'm new but not new to Jeeps. I have a 95 Rio Grande which is a 4 cylinder which I've had for 3 years now.

Anywho, this morning I walked to it to find that someone had go through everything. The only thing they took was the original dvd that came with it.
I figure as I have been told to just leave it unlocked because, its cheaper to replace the stuff inside instead of the top itself. I have an aftermarket CD player and a CB radio. It had an aftermarket alarm but, I had to take out the fuse because of it staying on even when turning it off and killing my battery.

I'm going to take off the doors because the seam in the window is broken. I never leave anything valuable inside, has anyone else had this issue?

I'm also moving soon to a new house in two weeks.

Same edition(rio grande), but hardtop and full doors. That's what sold me on mine, because several people at my school have had the same problem. Some solved it by getting a locking console and rewiring their stereo system through it locking their stereo box/console whenever they parked. Others just left their doors unlocked.

Locked console was my solution. when I bought my jeep it had hard doors/top with it. I bought it in october, saved the cash for a center console and relocated before spring hit. Haven't had any theft issues at all and havn't locked my hard doors for a full year. Best investement I could have made for security.

I always run no top and doors and this is spot on. Anything valuable can be left in the console and it'll take much more than a casual thief to get at it.

Well as long you do like I do and live in the country and not some pos ghetto you won't have a problem. If someone breaks into my jeeps they better like their faces on 4 different camera angles. Plus my iPhone goes ape shit because it alerts me the second the cameras sense movement of any kind. And when I leave the house I do as others said, don't lock the doors.

lmao, my thoughts exactly. Unfortunately in lower Michigan we are only aloud to hunt deer with shotguns. But there are no rules about taking out a thief with my 30-30 go figure.

Well, now you guys got me started on locking consoles, and actually having a console at all! What brand does everybody like best? Tuffy? I'm looking at getting the 8" gen II, but it seems like quite the pretty penny to me. Is there a more budget friendly option?

If you can afford a tuffy and want a clean, professional look, get one of those. Smittybuilt and rugged ridge make stereo consoles too. I have the smittybuilt one, it's ok and will discourage the casual thief, but the weld quality on the hinge is somewhat lacking, I just had to repair mine. I can't speak on the quality of the rugged ridge one. This is the one I have: Smittybilt Wrangler Security Stereo Floor Console, Black Denim 31815 (87-95 Wrangler YJ) - Free Shipping

A lot of guys will make one out of an ammo can, this can be to your advantage if you like the look and are on a budget. You can customize it to fit your needs which is a plus. Here's one of the better ones I've seen.

My cables run through a standard conduit pipe like this: Dorman - Conduct-Tite 3/4 In. X 10 Ft. Black Flex Split Wire Conduit 86665: Advance Auto Parts

Cheap, effective and, if bolted down, clean.

You can't hunt deer aloud.

You have to be vewy, vwey quiet when hunting deer.

I no this might sound strange but I have a TJ because of that way of thinking. I would leave my 1987 4runner unlocked , nothing more valuable than a broken window. It took them 18 seconds to get in ,start and drive off in my runner and never seen again for two years. I bought the TJ and have full coverage this time and a KILL switch in my garage, and still have surveillance which done me no good the first time.

Thanks everyone!

I was at my fiance's apartments when it happened and never have had a problem with my house. I just don't go over there unless I can use the car while he is at work. I'm just afraid they know where the wires are now. I don't have anything in the console that they could want and they just threw the papers on the ground because I forgot to lock it. (We changed the brakes.) It's locked now.

We are going to move and I'm going to get a kill switch because the neighborhood I have lived in, I've lived in for almost 23 years. I'm just glad I have my baby.

What does his mother being allowed to skip school got to do with anything?

Oh I get it, you were being sarcastic and rather than address directly mijeeper80's misuse of the word "aloud" instead of the correct spelling "allowed" you chose to belittle him with an attempt at humor at his expense. Not very classy.

By the way, I think you were trying to say that mijeeper80's mother allowed HIM to skip school too often, no?

glad you were able to figure out what he was getting at because it didn't make a lot of sense to me. Guess I have just been on the internet too long, I make up words all the time lol

Wasn't aware this forum was so strict on correct spelling.

Some people are more interested in making themselves feel smarter than others by poking fun at them. This forum is full of people that will provide useful information without passing judgment on a misspelled or misused word. I am constantly using a the wrong word when there are multiple spellings even though I try not to. Like they say, it happens.
