jeep rides very rough

i just purchased a jeep 4 days ago. its a 95 wrangler with a 2.5.. the guy told me all the jeep has is a 2" body lift. but it definently has a suspension lift but not sure of how much.. it has the army leafs. the jeep also has brand new shocks but the look like ones you would get from sears or something..

the jeep seems to have no flex or travel it rides very very rough goin down the road and the rear tires are leaving the ground alot when when doing minor off-roading..

is there anyway to soften the ride up some without loosing any of the height or how do you remove a leaf like people talk about?

You do not want to start ripping leafs out of the pack. Identify your suspension components first and then decide what you want to do.

You can do a suspension search on this forum. There are lots of threads about this on here. Do you have pics?

Welcome,

Sounds like you have some good springs, or at least at one point they were. I would guess a big part of the ride issue might be the shocks. Also it is a YJ, they ride a bit rougher. If you can try to either link to some pic's of the suspension or upload some on here and we can give you a better idea of what you have.

Is the shackles in the back in a bind they should be bent towards the back a little so when compressed the springs are allowed to move. I have a buddy that has a pro comp suspension and it is rougher than hell but it is the springs he ordered.

try loosening the shackle bolts and driving in a parking lot then re-torque to spec or a little lighter. Inspect the bushings make sure they move could all be bound up the springs need to move to work properly and the double wrapped military springs are heavy duty so they will be a bit stiffer

My YJ rides rough on some streets around town. I have found jeeps to ride rougher than cars. My Suzuki X-90 rides rough too because of the short wheel base.
What does rough mean and what kind of a ride are you looking for??

My military Black diamond springs are solid (definitely "rough" over stock). I took both track bars and sway bar off to help some. Go with a softer shock. When one of my tires come off the ground off road I am usually doing something bad @$$!!!

What size tires, what tire pressure? The tire shop souped up my 31s to 38 lbs. Dropping to 27 helped soften the ride some.

Mine did that when i bought it, turned out the rear springs were too long for the jeep and the shackles were hitting on the bumper most of the time causing it to be really stiff almost bonejarring rough. We made new shackles and relocated the upper shackle hole on the frame back closer to the bumper which made it 200 times better.
