Jeep Trunk

I was looking for a way to be able to secure more stuff in the jeep when I saw a thread on here a little bit back on the same subject and it gave me some ideas. I built a plate out of 16GA steel and had it powder coated and secured behind the rear seat. I had to have the tailgate lock repaired so now I can lock my new trunk up with tools and recovery gear.

When I first looked at the post, I thought "That's a good idea if a guy runs with or without a back seat. I wonder what he paid for it".

Then I read the text. OP built it!! Great Job!! It looks factory built.
The powdercoating is a nice touch.

As a fabricator, I compliment the builder. I know the precision necessary to get all the measurements exact so that there isn't big gaps to caulk or shim. And then to get piece into the sheet metal break just perfectly square on the line. And, for a one-off piece.
Hopefully OP saved his pattern and can make more for his buddies or online sales.

I had a CJ7 with a tool box bolted to the floor behind the rear seat. I like this setup better because it's just as secure and has a lot more room for larger items.

Good Luck, L.M.

Right on!! Nice!I lucked out, my bro in law who no longer has a YJ(now a hemi powered Scrambler on 35’s) had a lot of stuff for yj’s and gave me an insta-trunk. It’s nice to have the ability to lock up valuables when you have a soft top= out of sight, out of mind.
