laredo Side Step-up

I have an 88 YJ Laredo that has the side steps as part of the trim between front and rear fender flares (i assume all Laredos do).

My question is there are 2 bars on each side bolted thru floor that hold the flange that the step sits on, is it just the bolts that hold the flange, or are the bars welded? I want to remove the awful looking side steps and just have seperate front and rear flares.

Does this make any sense?

Thanks.

We removed my roomates and they weren't welded just bolted through the body. Hopefully yours will be that easy, there was a little bit of a seal but it wasn't welded.

i have a 92 islander, and i believe the side steps and whatnot are the same as the laredo.

i removed everything- the flares and side steps. as far as i remember, there wasn't anything welded, just bolted. still, it was a pain in the BUTT to get those things off.

Undo the bolts on the arms that hold the flange to undercarriage....bolts are accessable from inside YJ, they are sticky!! Use a lot of PB Blaster or whatever you like.
Then have to undo all bolts that hold molding to outside rocker panel, thats the real bitc# cause the molding makes them somewhat difficult to access...I just loosened the front flare at the joint, didn't remove them, then put on those short extenders for now...

i think having them colored the same as your jeep helps. this is the one my wife just sold a few months ago and hers was a 93.

here is my 87

Right behind the front flare where did you get the end piece for it. What would you even call that?
