Locked Up Front

Since I'm installing a mechanical disconnect to replace my non-working vacuum unit, I've had a revelation. I've always wanted the tj shafts, but with this trust-worthy mechanical disco, should'nt I be able to put a full time locker in up front and have the same or comparable road handling? My old plan was to get solid shafts, a locker, and lockout hubs, but with the disco still in there shouldn't this allow for the two front tires to spin at different speeds really well when the axle is disengaged?

Yes, you can install a Detroit or similar full time locker in your front axle and run the Posi-loc cable. Your stock dana 30 is a three piece axle that will allow you to do this.
I would highly recomend that you upgrade to alloy axle shafts or carry spares with you if you go this route.

If you go with a lunchbox locker (which is full-time) - then you won't notice it at all in 2wd, only in 4wd will you notice that it's there - regardless of the YJ CAD setup, or TJ shafts.

You look like a guy that would know more about it than me, but wouldn't you hear the locker? I mean certainly the two wheels being able to spin independently would affect handling some, right? Oh well. I was just concerned because unfortunately my life causes my jeep to see more pavement than mud. But anyways. It's good news either way. Thanks for the response.

You might hear a light 'clicking' coming out of your differential, but you wouldn't hear it through the tires chirping or anything. With no power supplied (such as a front application with the t-case in 2wd), a lunch box locker is full open and is able to free-spin - which is what's desired for on-road application.
