Loving The TJ Rubicon Wheels And Tires On My YJ

When I purchased my 94 YJ S Sport in September it was riding on a set of 15" aftermarket crap with Goodyear Viva 2, P205/75R15 tires. They were so crappy that it was not worth my time and effort to rehab by sanding and painting them. But with my new paint job they were an eye sore and had to go. So I went on Facebook Marketplace and bought a set of 5 15" OEM Jeep Wheels which had Futura Scrambler, 30x9.5R15LT's on them for $100 as a temporary fix. My partner from work gave me a set of 5 silver OEM Jeep Rubicon wheels from his 04 TJ. One had with a knobby Goodyear Wrangler MT/R 245/75R16 on it. The MT/R's run $250+, so over the past 5 months I surfed the internet for closeouts, buying the remaining 4 tires between $80-$150. I painted the wheels satin black, added the red Jeep Willy decal on them, installed 1" Rugged Ridge wheel spacers and 1" Rugged Ridge shackle left for clearance and put the wheels and my tires on my YJ. Surprisingly the ride is smooth and without the knobby wheel road noise. The steering wheel is straight as an arrow and the handling is much improved. And lastly, the look is awsome! I'm so glad I made the switch.

Looks good, did you have to add the 1" spacer for turning clearance on the front or for another reason? Do the tires extend past the fender flares? I like the look and wouldn't mind a little taller tire myself.

I called TireRack. They said that I didn't need to do either for the bigger tire size, but with the larger knobby tires I thought that it would be a better look and if there were to be any clearance issue, the lift and the spacers would satisfy that. And to answer your question, the wheels stick out almost 3" from the fender flares. I got both the spacers and the shackle lift kit on sale, they cost me $180. I installed both myself one weekend to save money. Took me about 3 hours in my garage with basic tools, a jack, a block of wood and couple of jack stands. Oh and a 6 pack of Coors Light to calm my nerves, cause I was nervous as hell doing the job myself. Lol

Looking very good!

One question: Why did you (and some other YJ owners as I can see on the YJ Pic section remove the middle part of the tan roll cage cover?

It was missing when I bought it. I had asked the same question. I was told that some came with and some came without. I actually just purchased that section of padding used. I have to buy a T50 extension in order to separate the roll bar so I can install.

Ah, I See, I thought some owners did remove the middle pads just for the looks...
