may be trading half doors for full doors

when we started looking for a jeep we wanted a red yj with full doors. well after months of searching, last month we got a red yj with half doors.

now i might have the opportunity to get some full doors. i have a 1990 yj, the doors are from a 1991 yj. they should be compatible right? i know i will have to get a new top, but that's ok. i'd rather have to buy a top then both top and doors.

is there anything i'm leaving out. i've done some reading on this subject and think i know what i have to do and get. but if i'm forgetting something let me know.

All YJ doors are the same. Some CJ Doors are the same as long as they have the "paddle" exterior handles. You may have to fiddle with the door striker to get it to lineup but it won't take you longer than 10minutes.

That's what I thought. What about tops, the Bestop super top, or the pavement ends flip top? Does anybody make door surrounds similar to the tj surrounds to hold me over until I get a new top?

^ X2. All YJ doors are the same...87-95 No changes. Most of the later 80's Cj7 doors fit as well.

There are 2 types of soft door tops. One has square or pointed tops. The other has rounded tops like the hard doors. If your current top and doors are rounded then u will not have a problem. If your door surounds are square then you will need a new top to work with the full doors( if there's another way then I don't know it)
I have the bestop sun-rider with full steel doors , and full soft doors ( cj bottom(striker modified) tj uppers) and they all work well.

Pretty sure 82-95 doors are interchangeable. I know 87-95 will without a doubt!

You may have to fiddle with the body and door hinges as well to get proper alignment. Not a big deal either if the torx bolts arent too rusty. When you are sure you got a trade, start spraying the body door hinges inside and out with PB Blast and when you get the doors do them as well. Take the door panel off if necessary. One of the new 18V impact wrenches is perfect for this, just make sure you are lined up perfectly, apply pressure and if it doesnt come out, spray again and wait another day. Patience is the key with rusty torx if you dont wanna be drilling them out.

My YJ isnt particulary rusty and it took a week on one torx on my YJ on the body hinge but it did come out and did not strip. Just took time for the PB to creep in and loosen things up. Every time I walked by I would try the impact for a few seconds then sprayed it down again until it came out. I dont think I am gonna be lucky on the rollbar to windshield bolts tho, the PO already stripped one round and another may work with an allen but I doubt it and the other two are iffy at best. May be easier to get a new frame! Glass is cracked anyway.

Good luck!

got some pics lst night... the passenger is good to go. the driver door has a dent, missing door panel and latch and need new weather stripping on the window. no rust, and both windows roll up/down fine. he wants to do a straight up trade and is throwing in a front bumper (if i want it) since the driver door has issues.

looking at the pics, i think the driver door might have some clear coat cracking, and both of them are slightly faded. but my whole jeep was faded when i got it, i just buffed polished and waxed it and it came back to life.

can anyone weigh on on the dent as far as repair. can it be knocked out without messing up the paint? anything else i should look for on these doors before i decide to trade?? i've already priced door panels on ebay, they are cheap. despite the driver side door, i'm still concidering the trade because i know how much people sell these doors for. i've only seen one other red set and they were for 600 bucks and alomost 6 hours away from me.
