My 1st Jeep

I picked up my first Jeep. It is a 89 YJ with a 4.2L and 5 speed. The stock rear end is shot but I got a Ford 8.8 with it that needs swapped in. I just ordered a kit with my axle perches, shock brackets, u-bolts and spring plates. I can't wait to get the 8.8 put in and get it in some mud!

Mud, You have much to learn. 5 minutes of fun = 5 years of misery when working on it. People wonder how my yj is rust free. Its cause its alwats avoided mud

Enjoy it! Make sure you crawl underneath at the power wash and spray everything off, otherwise you'll end up rusting your frame. The fun will be worth the work, do whatever makes you happy!

You didn't mention, but make sure the new axle has the same gear ratio as is there now.

Yup, already checked. 3.73's on both.

Mud, rocks, trails. Whatever is in the way of my Jeep.

I should say 3.73 gears with 35" tires. Hopefully that is a good combo. I'll find out next weekend. I just ordered everything I need to do the swap (or so I think).

I think you'll end up wanting something taller, but try it and see what you think. Edit- taller gearing, not taller tires, maybe steeper would've been a better word.

That's kind of what I was thinking after reading some posts but I'll see how these feel and go from there. I forgot to mention it has the SOA done too. It sits pretty high.
