My stock yj

My stock yj is all stock and upgrades are expensive. Looking fo used parts or a place to get cheap parts. I spent alot just to find a yj that wasnt rusted. Now i dont have money for a lift kit, bigger tires or rims, new bumpers. Im not looking for free stuff just used.

The first free modification you can do to not only improve offroad performance, but make onroad riding much smoother, is to ditch the track bars. They are useless dead weight and do nothing but limit the flex of the leafs. There is no disadvantage to not having them, you will not roll over any easier without them on. Leave your swaybar connected for the road use, for find yourself a pair of quick disconnects.

A lot can be done to stock Jeeps, and they're really capable. Would also help to know what engine and year it is.

Are you sure you have a 4 speed? Never heard of one in a YJ. You got a manual or auto?

Xpress says it all. If I were you, I'd drop the bars front and back.

Yep as you said it wasn't factory standard. All 2.5L YJ's came with the AX5. To the OP, if your 5th gear isn't working, sounds like you might have one of the common problems with the AX5, do a little digging to find the fix. It's relatively simple I believe.

The old man that sold it to me said 5th had been out for 3 years. It has a slot for 5th but it just revs. when placed there. It will still do 70mph with out 5th so I dont see it as being a big deal.

Awesome I also have a 95 YJ with the 4 banger except mine came with the 3 speed automatic (hate it). Mine is also stock. Gonna remove the track bars this weekend now.

Well from what i understand with only having the 2.5L any tire bigger then 31" will require a regear to be useful so i'll probably be going with the 2.5" also with 31"s

I have the same set up 2.5l, 5 speed with 2.5" RC lift and 31" tires. It is all that 2.5l can do to spin those 31's and 5th gear is almost useless. I still have my track bars front and rear buit will be experimenting with removal and see how I like it. Not my DD but a weekend toy.

Looks like it's time to start hunting for a new powerplant for this thing. I'd swap to the 4.0L but i read it's alot more involved then one would think. If I'm gonna do extra work might as well find a V8 for it.

There's really no need, keep your gearing in check and that 2.5L will take you to the moon and back. It's a Jeep, not a racecar
